Opening weekend success is always a great thing and what makes it even greater is seeing your son take his first deer. After tagging along with dad on several hunts in the past few years and spending plenty of hours at the target range practicing he was finally ready for opening morning. I don’t know who’s nerves were more on edge, mine or his. However when it came down to the moment I was very proud of him for keeping it all together, squeezing off one shot at approximately 100 yards dropping this buck. Also he had to be patient for some does to clear making sure nothing was beyond the buck or to close in case of a miss. He was using his .243 savage with Nosler 95 grain bullet.
