How about you guys?
Seems I'm seeing a lot more surprise sightings and livestock damage stories. I predicted that, seems like it's happening.
Not sure how the cougar numbers (or habit patterns, lowland influx, livestock damage, etc.) are going to react to the influx of wolves, but the fact that more big predators are out cutting into the herds has the same effect.... and "they" are still regulating the humans out of the equation. Closing the most impacted areas at the end of the year.
What do you think about lion hunting this year?

I got a lot of hunting to catch up on, I plan on bringing home a couple cats this year for myself and my daughter, and if we tag out I plan on taking out a couple friends.

Well I too am looking at doing some lion hunting. I had a little incident a week before the general rifle season opener. I was hiking down a somewhat over grown trail with my Brittany. He's usually off in the brush looking for grouse, squirrels, rabbits, etc. Well he was in front of me and I hear a yelp and a few seconds later he's running back towards me with something chasing him. First I thought it was a doe until I see the head better and long tail. The cougar saw me and bolted. I am pretty sure he has a den around there and would love to dispatch of this deer killing machine. Any suggestions on a good call or should a person go with a fox pro just to be able to project the sound better while being a ways away?
I always advise the e-call because it's louder, gets the sound away from you, and you aren't moving to make the sound. See them first!
You'll never hear me calling without vocals involved. Changes the whole scenario.

I haven't really had the drive for hunting deer the past couple of years because of my obsession for targeting predators. We have a cougar coming in consistently at our cabin in Curlew that I will be going after this year. I get it coming and going on one of my cameras, that is pointed at our driveway gate, probably every 3-4 weeks. And then it shows itself only twice, in one year, on my camera that's aimed at a salt block and deer food. I would have thought of the opposite :dunno:. Anyway, anyone with any advise for targeting this cat is encouraged.
Impossible to pattern their patterns........ yeah. That. They have no rules to follow, they are whimsical, don't follow orders, and do what they want... like housecats! Cats are cats.

Plenty of cats in our neck of the woods. They need to be shot!
Archery hunted elk off the 1500 rd in the early season. Found SIX elk kills in one square mile! Not a den either, just random around the hillside!

Well, one less cougar in the Stilly valley (Oso) as of yesterday. A friend of mine showed me picture of someone with about a 60-70lb. cat strapped to their mountain bike. Nobody seems to know who it was, maybe someone on here will pipe up :dunno:.
I assume they were hunting off their bike.... not just biking?!? That'd be a story!

There's an old logging road, that goes for several miles, that you can walk, ride a bike or horse on where the guy was hunting. From the picture, looked like the guy was probably up there deer hunting and lucked out with getting a cat instead. The odds of him seeing that cat while biking along are very good. People see bears, walking on that same road, all the time.Well, one less cougar in the Stilly valley (Oso) as of yesterday. A friend of mine showed me picture of someone with about a 60-70lb. cat strapped to their mountain bike. Nobody seems to know who it was, maybe someone on here will pipe up :dunno:.
I assume they were hunting off their bike.... not just biking?!? That'd be a story!
