Title: Fingers Bow?
Post by: slowhand on October 31, 2017, 12:55:51 PM: What would You recommend for a modern fingers bow?
I have no interest in shooting a release as I have shot with a three finger tab since I was ten.
Recommendations please.

Last one I had that was finger shootable was a Golden Eagle recurve compound. That was 35 years ago.

Post by: Katmai Guy on October 31, 2017, 01:25:35 PM: I shoot a Hoyt Ultratec, 3 fingers under, with an ATA or 39". Was looking at the new Hoyt Defiant 35 I think it was, which gains 3-3/4" at full draw so you're holding at 38 3/4" ATA at full draw. Think this might be my next finger bow.

I thought a release was something extra to fail in the field and that with my form, a release wouldn't make any difference. My last fingers bo was a Reflex, probably about 40" c2c. Luckily, my local pro hit me in the head with a mallet and changed my thinking. I'll never look back. I was wrong and I shoot far better with the release. :dunno:

It's like the traditional blackpowder flintlock guy picking up a T/C inline shooting sabots with fiberoptic open sights. I just want to shoot fingers like I always have. I fully understand that a release is an improvement.

Sure a release would be more accurate but I like shooting fingers.

I could lay my Spoiler over clockwise quite a ways, it had a Berger Button & rest that looked somewhat like a small allen wrench. I couldn't do that w/my Trophy Taker rest that I have today. Being able to tip that Spoiler came in handy a few times when overhead clearance was an issue.

I got one of them and it looks like you could easily use fingers to shoot it.

I think you will be happy with the Reflex, very accurate bow. Tons of guys shooting barebow class at the Nationals shoot that bow or very similar

My only concerns are parts availability (Cams, strings, cables)
and the fact that it appears to have a very mild cam in the photo. like Just a wheel?
I suspect this will have very little let off when at full draw and might make for a slow moving arrow. I really want to know If Hoyt supports their bows at this age?
I am going to get it, so I guess We will see.

i have had 3 over the years

was difficult to find replacement strings

I love then new Hoyt reflex caribou. Very forgiving bow.
I have taken it to the bow range 4 times now and We are getting to know each other quite well. First thing I noted was the noise. Big long string with no silencers. Thwap...
I added a couple old yarnies I had sitting in My bow box. Bit better But going to need to add a few of the rubber cat whiskers.
I have changed the rest. It came with a Trophy ridge drop away rest. In My opinion the drop away rest sucks for shooting fingers. I picked up a whisker biscuit from Cabelas. Now this is My first experience with a whisker biscuit, they are sweet indeed. I bought the size large for aluminum arrows. I'm not ready to go carbon and plan to shoot aluminum until they don't make them. 2315 Easton what ever they make will work for Me. The picture at Flint tip of the guy with the carbon arrow in his hand is horrible. "this is what happens when You shoot a damaged carbon arrow" it says, No thanks.
Changed out the sight it came with for an old Hoyt high dollar sight I had sitting around. So much better. Found that My 10 yard pin works for 20 yards perfectly. It's only a 4 pin sight but I don't plan any shots past 50 yards. :hello:
