Just wondering if any of you our there hunt with an AR10 platform and if so what brand and what caliber ? I was thinking of building one or buying a factory rifle to add to the gun safe and to hunt with obviously.

people do, but they can be heavy, the AR15 is a lighter option.

Mine.

I did change the scope mount...went to a SPUHR.
-
Every now and then with a Sig Sauer 716 (.308 Win).

Gen I DPMS Lite Hunter. 7.9 pounds bare.
Keep it simple with no accessories, a light mount and scope and you will be just 1-1.5 pounds over most bolt actions.
Weight aside, I find them uncomfortable to carry but great for calling where the hike is limited.

I use a sig sauer m716

My Hunting Partner used a Armalite DEF10 and he loves it... It's not too heavy, and with a 2pt sling, you can go all day.

If you are going for big game, use the AR10 because you can get it in 6.5 Creedmoor, which you could use for varmint hunting and about all the big game in Washington. Look for the Remington R25 or go custom.

Over the years elk hunting, my rifles have lost weight, not gained. It would be hard to pack even a lite hunter LR243 up those damn hills of death...

I'm putting together a light weight 18" AR 6.5 Creedmoor.
