It's good to see WDFW looking to the future but the CFBD will be a big thorn in the side of progress.
-
It's slightly more encouraging than past statements from the WDFW. Meeting the regional goals is going to be tough and we still need the USFWS to de-list statewide. There's no reason that wolves need federal protection anywhere in WA.
-
"Eastern Washington has eight documented breeding pairs, while the North Cascades has two. The South Cascades has zero. Nevertheless, WDFW projects the goals will be met statewide by 2021 or 2022."
According to WDFW own account wolves started "migrating" to Washington in 2002, twenty years later WDFW are predicting wolves will be recovered.
The illegal introduction into the Yellowstone and Idaho produced enough wolves to delist in all three states in just 6 to 7 years.
Twenty years of an uncontrolled wolf population should produce very limited hunting opportunities and untold damage to livestock producers.
And then will the lawsuits start to prolong delisting even longer?
Yep, sure looks like a win, win situation for WA...

The WDFW manage wolves. What a joke! They couldn't even manage rabbits in a cage!

I wonder if WDF&Wolves are worried that their fake wolf numbers are going to snowball on them, with the ungulate herds headed for ruin, wolf problems will multiply and the wolf loving crowd will wonder where all the wolves suddenly came from?
Imagine the shock of finding out that WDF&Wolves lied about the wolf count as wolves eat fluffy off the front porch on a regular basis.
What kind of spin will WDF&Wolves run with?

"wdfw-looks-ahead-to-post-recovery-wolf-management"
gee, it seems like looking ahead to post recovery should have been done prior to writing the wolf management plan...................
:dunno:

The easy out the WDFW has is the "Documented" caviate. When they become as common as coyotes the excuse will be something standard. We didn't have enough funding, they are difficult to trap, there were so many false reports.
Perhaps those whom don't wish to engage in SSS should try a technique common in rural areas for deer. I've seen so many with pierced ears that make identification easier perhaps that would translate to wolves.... that way the pictures help document the issue better.

Perhaps that's why they are giving out so many deer permits because they are hoping to starve the wolves because they wont have much to eat besides cougars
