Hey, my Dad has an old Model 700 with a Bell and Carlson synthetic stock. The paint is coming off. Does anyone know how i can paint it, I'd like to do it myself if possible. Any info would be great. Thanks allot, John

mask off what you dont want painted clean the stock(i think i used rubbing alchol) and paint with krylon fusion paint in whatever color you want then cover with a few coats of clearcoat i also used black splatter paint.

tlbradford had a kind of how-to thread on here a while back that was more involved than i've ever done...good info.
i just cleaned with some degreaser and painted with krylon camo paint a few coats. i used some camo grass stencils and a few different colors and it comes out good enough for me. there are companies out there you can send it to and have it dipped or painted professionally too, but the krylon seems to work well enough for most.

Thanks for the info guys. Anymore suggestions would be great!!! :) :)

Here's the thread. Some folks get a lot fancier than I do, and they really look great.

+1 on that. Jamieb from the site here steered me in the right direction, and I did the same thing with my Savage Model 12 about a month or two ago. It turned out nice. I chose not to buy a stencil kit or make any stencils. I just used a base coat of the olive colored Krylon Fusion Camo paint and then faded in some stripes of the khaki and brown camo colors. You can get a great speckeled pattern (web pattern) by holding the can back and just kind of overcoating everything if you want. I used an old Ruger 10-22 synthetic stock for practice and then sprayed the Savage. The local lumber store had Krylon Fusion in gloss and satin, but not the ultra flat camo. I ended up finding the Krylon Fusion Camo (ultra flat) at Schuck's when I was up in Tumwater one day. You might check Schuck's in Centralia because I would bet they have it also, although I haven't checked.

Here's a couple paint jobs I've done on stocks... both done with Khaki and OD Green Krylon Fusion.

Pretty simple to do... this is how I did it:

my son did his old wood stock with a textured paint. Krylon make it stone
-
You could always have it dipped as well,
http://www.hydrodip.com/all_patterns.htm
Arrow down to see the camo patterns they have, I am going to have a euro scull done by them, JMKuhlman is sending one or two of his rifles there as well. Thhis is the pattern I'm doing.

Does painting the barrel affect the gun at all?
-
You need to sand down your stock to make room for the added paint material to your barrel, if you paint the underside where it contacts the stock, or is free floated.

Duracoat works great. Here is one of my AR-15s before I added A Scope or finished it up.

Alright I'll ask, what does the FD need an AR for? Nice inconspicuous color by the way :chuckle:

You never know when you might need one.
