I got my Eastmans Bowhunting Journal today and eagerly started reading it and to my dismay the dialed in section was written by Guy Eastman. Don't get me wrong I like Guy and the rest of the guys at Eastmans but I sure liked reading Cameron's material. So does anybody know where he is writing now?

I love the fact that eastman's hunts big game of the west but i personally believe they're on their high horse a little to much. They're also a little boring. Hanes is the definition of MAN though. That guy has more backcountry (I mean legit USFS wilderness backcounrty) hunts under his belt than most of us. Hanes is truly one to look up to in my book!

That is so true. I don't know what's worse watching tree stand hunting over a food plot in the south or watching guys hunting in Texas in an elevated house.
Like someone else said I like Eastmans but they are over rated. They claim fair chase and no high fences but all they hunt is guided 50,000 acre ranches. Miraculously all they ever find are 200" bucks. So one has to wonder if a mass email is sent out to all the outfitters that Eastmans will pay big money if they find a 190" buck or bigger. Plus it seems most of their shots are 300 yds or more and with the camera you can hardly see the deer. On tv I like them up close and personal. Cameron Hanes is awsome though that will be too bad if he's gone.

I disagree, Most of Eastmans is DIY public land hunting, and often backcountry. Eastmans is the real deal in my opinion.

alecvg,
I'm not talking about Cameron Hanes when I make that statement. He is the best part of that show. Guy Eastman needs to stop bragging about the no fences fair chaise stuff. While all that is true all of the hunts I have seen him on are all multi-thousand dollar guided hunts on 50,000 acre ranches. When he does hunt public land it is not during the general season it is because he drew a very coveted special permit and then usually he still uses a guide.
Their strategy is too put in for every special permit in every state they can. Well normal people can't do that. So while it is cool to watch them shoot a 190" buck or a 350" bull every time I prefer real hunts by real people. Cameron Hanes was that guy for them. But I guess I shouldn't knock the Eastmans too much. They are trophy hunters and that is their thing. That's why they sell stuff. But most people can't afford what they do. At least Cameron Hanes did hunt DIY public land stuff without a guide. He will be missed.

I guess I do see where you are coming from. But Cam wasn't the only one who did real hunting, Nate Simmons does, as do many others. Orignaly, you said that all of Eastmans does high fence, ranch hunting, and I disagreed, I am probaly just being to technical.

This is from another thread but I could not have said it better myself. As usuall Bone summed it up best with this.

I have a lot more respect for someone like Cameron Haines who hunts a lot on his own back in the bush where we all can hunt, than I do for Guy Eastman who takes Daddies money and hunts on a private ranch where several guys have watched these animals all summer, know their habits, know what is available, and essentially shooting not quite but close to what might be someones pet. And....then doing it everytime, and then make a living on selling "the hunt" to you.

i just started reading his backcountry bow hunting book and from what i have read in that its hard to think of him hunting out of a tree stand
-
He did for B/T's on one show that was shot in Oregon.

He often hunts Blacktails out of a tree stand. It is actually pretty effective (from what I hear, I haven't done it yet).
