I was in a muzzle loader deer area yesterday, and saw a gentleman coming out of a clear cut with a crossbow. Can you use a crossbow during muzzle loader season, or is it you need a disibility card.
I know the refs say you can use it during fire arm seasons, just could not find if it was legal for muzzy season.
Thanks

No a crossbow would not be legal for muzzleloader season.

There’s a couple areas where muzzle loader and archery overlap. If hes disabled he can use a crossbow while you use muzzleloader

If he had a multi season tag would it be than?
-
Multi-season only allows you to hunt all the seasons, but you still have to comply with the individual season equipment requirements.

Or lesser weapon. I hunted whitetail muzzleloader last week with my Bow. (I had a multi season tag) The only people in this state allowed to use crossbow are disabled. The problem is just like everything else their are those who take advantage of the situation.

I don’t think so on crossbow. @lokidog

No, a crossbow is not ever legal in a muzzleloader season with the possible exception of hunters with disabilities with proper authorization.

During a modern firearm season, sure. But not for archery or muzzleloader seasons, since a crossbow is only legal to use for modern firearm season.

Correct, or in other words, comply with the season equipment requirements... :chuckle:

Is there any chance there is/was a M/F late permit hunt that over-lapped the area in question?

Yes. My unit 407 does, you could muzzleload and archery hunt right now.

Still doesn't make a crossbow an option, at least for deer or elk, there is cougar or predator hunting, but figure that is a stretch maybe???
That is unless, as has been said, there is a disability permit in place.

Yes sorry. Forgot to say that. That’s the only situation you should legally be able see a hunter with a crossbow during muzzleloader season

No overlap, just a ML deer area, even with a disability, it would have to be an archery overlap area, correct?
