I doubt they are impacting deer much, winter kill is more of a limiting factor for them.  Hard to tell with elk, if they just go by harvest data it might not paint an accurate picture.  There are lots of elk in the valleys, so if roadside surveys play an important role in the data, it might not show what's happening in the mtns.  Moose seem to be declining, predators, loss of habitat, and parasites are all part of that.

No mention of caribou.... They are suffering due to lions and wolves.  Hard to know which is harder on them.

I thought the bio in the Methow said they count predation as winter kill  :dunno:

predication, or harassment by predators, accelerates winter kill.

Animals left alone might survive, but wolves chases them and they burn calories they needed to last through the bad times.

but hey, that's winterkill...right?

This came up at the GMAC meeting today, nobody said anything positive about the report. The WDFW people said that they were mandated by the legislature last year to issue a report using whatever data was available at that time,  the only data they had was harvest data so that is what they used, even though they admitted that it probably showed an incomplete picture of what was going on. Why they waited a year to release the data wasn't explained to most people's satisfaction. It was requested that they issue another press release that explained why the data wasn't really accurate. Who knows if they will?  :dunno: They wonder why the public has credibility issues with them.

I think so too, but they're the same wolves as is here so I wouldn't expect anything less here.

This no accident, this is pure political propaganda.  No different than the BS photos of the starving polar bear being passed around all over the net right now as proof of climate change.  Complete and utter BS.
