My nicest Blacktail was shot with a .54 roundball at 80 yards on a late season hunt near Roseburg.

Walked in behind a locked gate today walk in only to check out a cut where I'd seen them a few days before. Hunted all morning but didn't see anything. The cut behind this gate is about 100 yards in maybe just a touch more. Each side of the cut is super thick with dog hair. Well the sun was Shane good and just as I'm coming up to the cut I decide to glass and to doze start coming out of the Timber and feeding I'm watching and watching and they start work there way down closer I cocked the hammer back to get ready to fire and they heard me the one was facing towards me and the other one was broadside so I stepped out from the tree I was behind and put the bead on the broadside one and let her rip. 85 yards was my distance and she ran about 20 yards and piled up by the time I got up to her she was done. I usually hunt With my knight bighorn 50 but always wanted to kill With a traditional setup. About 2 months ago I put an add on here and picked up a Thompson hawken 50 from a member here. I took it out to the ranged to get it sighted in. 80grn loose powder .495 round ball .15 patch. Needless to say I checked one off the bucket list  :IBCOOL:

Yeah it seen some things bought it from a member here who had it for about 25yrs it's the first generation hawken from Thompson doesn't have hawken stamped on the barrel or a blackpoweder warning eather. Internet says it was made between 1970 and 80 barrel is mint shape and was well taken care of
