Tough one for me. I’m wondering if it’s a color phase garter snake. No stripe down his back is throwing me off though.

Rubber boa

Rubber boa
Ya. Never even crossed my mind.
-
It’s a western yellow bellied racer.
-
Yep - figured that one out this summer when we sat down on the porch for lunch and one slithered under the cushion. I would have made a good showing at the NFL combine for vertical leap.

If that went under the cushion on my porch, The porch :yike:would be gone.
And my wife would have been on a bus to Alaska.

Yes, and on the flip side of the spectrum to a boa. Very fast!

Not the quality of the others but it's a snake nonetheless
-
We used to find lots of green racers at the rattler dens
-
Bone's #18 is a little unnerving. Any guess on how many denned together?
-
Rattler in cabin...
-
Rattler in shop. I think it was stretched out along the roll up door and woke up when I opened the door to let the dogs out for the night. Bad pic because it’s a screenshot of a video. Needless to say with 2 kids and 2 labs running around this one didn’t make it.
-
Disregard the fat guy. Picked this up swimming across the Missouri outside of Helena about 10 years ago. Biggest bull snake I've seen.
-
Did not pick this one up..... Roughly the same spot.
-
Darn fat rattler, thanks
-
ambush set
-
found another set of snake pictures
-
a couple more
-
Be careful out there
-
wow!!! no kidding that is scary looking, I used to mess with them a little but I keep my distance a little more nowadays.
-
My uncle got bit by a small baby rattles in EWa. Could have been a game ender and he was sick for quite a while.

Rubber Boa

Took my grand daughters pet ‘Wolfie’ for a hike one day. He chased this critter out of my path. Granddaughter gets a kick out of where I take Wolfie.
-
Good job wolfie!! Big bull snake
-
Some from my stint in Alabama - copperhead (I'm pretty sure it was hunting some abandoned kittens I found on a red dirt road), timber rattlesnake, and water moccasin/cottonmouth. Lots of close - too close - encounters down there. Wish I had photos of when we were doing research in swamps and catching cottonmouths in waist-deep water at night! :yike:
-
Rubber Boa
:chuckle: :chuckle: those are so cute.
The bull snakes in spring have always been extra bratty and will bite even if they are not devistating you can get a gross infection.
-
Northern Pacific rattlesnake, and western terrestrial garter snake (I think). Klickitat County.
-
For those interested, the website below is my favorite place to go for help with reptile and amphibian identification in WA.

Funny, you guys see snakes and grab a camera and make some good photos. I grab a shovel and make 2 snakes... sometimes 3,4,5 out of one.
-
I used to kill 'em whenever I came across them. Don't get any pleasure out of it anymore. I've developed quite an appreciation for them, and I think they're downright beautiful. I'd rather have lots of snakes than lots of mice.

I kind of want to venture to the east side and search for them a bit. Wife wants a rattle off of one and I want to try eating one!
-
Thanks for the southern pictures, excellent!!
-
I too think they are a beautiful animal and don't bother killing them unless they are in a crowded area like the paved parking lot at Rocky Ford which is the last one I killed a few years ago. I have eaten a few of them and they do indeed taste like chicken. I want to get one in the fall just before they go into hibernation, the last one I ate was in May and it was pretty skinny and there wasn't much meat on them little ribs.

I see a whole lot of NOPE in here... :bdid: lots of boots, belts, wallets and other clothing accessories. :mgun:
-
JUST got back from Africa........my buddy killed an 8' Black Mamba and also a Gaboon Viper....South Africa

I just read the Wikipedia page on black mambas. I probably shouldn't have.
I'm going to make my wife check under the bed tonight!

:yeah: Exactly that. I've hated snakes since the day I was attacked by one (unknown type).
-
Rattlers aren't nothing compared to them snakes in Africa and Australia....they can slither along faster than you can run, and there venom is crazy strong, like your dead in hours or sooner. No thank you!!!!!
-
Here's a pic of a snake I nearly sat on the other day. He wasn't in any hurry to get out of our way, just took his time
-
Glad you didn't. Was close to doing the same last October. Hiked back to truck after that.
-
The snakes crawl at night that's what they say
