Tough one for me. I’m wondering if it’s a color phase garter snake. No stripe down his back is throwing me off though.

Bad pic because it’s a screenshot of a video. Needless to say with 2 kids and 2 labs running around this one didn’t make it.

Lots of close - too close - encounters down there. Wish I had photos of when we were doing research in swamps and catching cottonmouths in waist-deep water at night! :yike:

The bull snakes in spring have always been extra bratty and will bite even if they are not devistating you can get a gross infection.

Post by: nitroelk on April 12, 2018, 08:27:27 AM: I too think they are a beautiful animal and don't bother killing them unless they are in a crowded area like the paved parking lot at Rocky Ford which is the last one I killed a few years ago. I have eaten a few of them and they do indeed taste like chicken. I want to get one in the fall just before they go into hibernation, the last one I ate was in May and it was pretty skinny and there wasn't much meat on them little ribs.

:yeah: Exactly that. I've hated snakes since the day I was attacked by one (unknown type).
