Just FYI, a lot of the 206/425 guys just moved, many of them are from with 15 minutes of the gate and have hunted there for decades, going back to when it was Plum Creek land, or even Champion, when there was no access quota. With the quota now, it should be consistent in numbers every year.
Title: Re: 2008 hancock tree farm
Post by: sturgeon seeker on March 11, 2009, 08:07:46 AM
there not elk rubs the trees that are being rubbed are only three maybe four inches in diameter. an elk would snap trees that small and besides they are way to low to the ground for elk. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Sometimes Blacktail bucks will rub trees to loosen their antlers, so they will fall off.

Here's a Kapowsin buck from 1996. Was the 2nd largest bodied buck I've taken, 80lbs of meat weighed at Stewarts. I lucked out and took this guy one day before my truck broke down during the special hunt, otherwise I would have had tag soup.

those are great deer. I got the biggest blacktail of my life out there. I don't know where you guys are seeing all these deer. It was like a wasteland out there last year. I didn't see one legal buck after the season opened. I was all over that place.

Thats a nice buck GRK.  Also both of those that you have there 7 mag.  Since Kapowsin is sold out I am guessing that you guys want to continue to keep everyone thinking that there are lots of nice bucks still in Kapowsin and not in Snoqualmie where you guys spend the lion's share of your time and killing too!  Sorry to call ya'll out but you know and I know it isn't anything like it used to be down south but everyone please keep huntin' there.  Used to be great but not anymore, just look at the harvest report numbers for last year.

I'll post some pics later on of my "kapowsin" bucks too.

There are no harvest result's posted for last year yet, that I am aware of. For 2007 your looking at a +8% difference, Mashel over Snoqualmie. It doesn't really equate that without the access quota from pre-2001/ 2002, that with 4-5x the hunter's the hunting was better. I did not see the quality of bucks coming out of there then that I do now and I spent a lot of time in there, between trail work in the off -season, the regular season and during the one special hunt I was drawn for, as well as friend's drawn for the special hunt. A good buck from that unit at that time, even during the special hunt was a 15 -16" 3pt. I spoke with Roger Woodruff many times about the Snoqualmie and he did in fact tell me that there is tribal hunting in there, but they couldn't verify the numbers harvested (of course) because of the same old BS, no harvest reporting.

I work up there a good portion of the year and I will say there is some real hogs in there . you don't even have to hike a 100 miles, my strategy is go where it looks pointless and usally thats where i find em. I have taken my biggest buck to date out of there, even bigger than the muleys i have taken. it's worth the money in my opinion. :twocents:

Can’t really tell if the quote above is serious or a joke, but if it’s serious - not everyone on this site is interested in posting pictures and then having to deal with bullsh#t insuations by guys that don’t even know them. Some guys that are pretty well respected on this site have already responded and vouched for the fact that logger’s buck was a stud. I doubt he's gonna post a picture, so if it really helps you to get over it, just visualize a masher 3-point blacktail with about 30 more inches of antler than G.R.K.’s buck (137 gross if I remember right).

Some guys might think that identifying 4 bucks in March by their ball sacks and being able to tell which ones were hogs is a hoax, but I think most guys went pretty easy on you. :twocents:

WOW Hope you guys get this out of your systems before the hunting season starts.I havent killed any pigs in there, just good ol legal deer.I have seen big bucks in there bigger than what Ive seen posted here, not putting down anyone.all my pics if I even took some were not digital. If ya know me Im not a horn hunter. The biggest buck I seen harvested in there was shot by a 12 yr old.the biggest bear Ive taken was 19 inch he is on my profile its a pic of a pic.the oldest bear was 22.5 yr old sow.The biggest blacktail Ive ever shot was a 5x5 in no cal,it was my first.that was the first legal buck I saw and shot it.I hunt because I love being out there, and the love the fellowship with those I hunt with.Ive played in the woods with a few members on here now and had a good time.Isnt that what its about? ;) :hello:

Lets just stop all the Jaw Jackin and start a thread that has ONLY MONSTER BLACKTAILS in it. Lets set the bar high at say nothing less than a monster 3 points and the rest can all be 4 points and bigger. If there are as many MONSTER Blacktails killed as bragged about lets see them. In other words talk is cheap. As for Loggers buck, I remember that picture and it is a very nice deer. I would have shot first and then counted points when I got to him if it was me, no question a SHOOTER BUCK.

sturgeon seeker,

First off, let me say that I don't know logger at all, but I do know that he tried to contribute in a positive way to a topic started by you, and then it seems a couple people started questioning his credibility. I thought that was disrespectful. Second, I didn't say that I didn't believe you. I just said that some guys might have a hard time buying your story, but they weren't disrespectful to you or start calling your story a hoax. I’ve never been in Hancock, nor ever plan to be. I enjoy seeing and hearing stories about big blacktails like a lot of guys. I was just pointing out the irony between your story being posted and then logger getting bashed for not posting pictures to make his claim credible. In the end, if you say your intent wasn’t to be disrespectful and you believe that, then I accept that, and I apologize for overreacting.

i think its a myth or maybe a hoax.

and what i wrote was in the form of a question. but maybe your not smart enough to figure that out. :mor:

I’ll bite my tongue a little about some of your other comments for the sake of this post keeping together and hopefully people posting up some more big blacktails. For the record, though, I thought questions ended with question marks. Of course, I’m too damn stupid to know about that so I’ll let other folks decide if they think your comment was a question or not.

To everyone else, sorry. Now, back to some blacktails.

keep it on track and be done with all the pissing and moaning or the thread will go away.

logger's buck is a hawg blacktail. if the guy doesn't want to post pictures, thats his call. after all the b.s. that came about when he did post pics, i can't blame him. let it go.

I love a good ending.  ;)

(I like nice legs too!)

All this talk about big blackies, makes me remember this huge basket rack buck we stumbled across elk hunting Matheny many years ago. We were driving down a main logging road and this buck sticks his head out up above us on the bank. I shout to my buddy driving "stop, I want a picture!" He stops the rig even with the buck. Perfect backdrop of pure green cedar limbs, dense backdrop, no gaps. Perfect lighting of evening sun on his greyed face, and Rack all aglow... I lean out the passenger window with camera to shoot over the cab, get all lined up on the deer for the awesome photo....and my buddy pumps the breaks, rolls forward a foot, and the buck bails before I get the shot.  I can still see his mass and perfect basket. Orange brown rack, all perfect. Never seen a bigger live blackie.
