It’s been about a year process of building traps and getting my license but I was finally able to get my traps out on Christmas Eve.

I have 6 cages out right now and still have 4 more I need to set.

Nothing but coyote tracks so far!

				Good luck!

A few good tips I got from Jakeland when I started out a few years ago.

Rub the big piece of bloody beaver meat all over a large branch right above your trap before u wire it up for bait.
And..if chance of theft is low, hang some flagging, a CD, cut up pie trays, anything that flutters in the wind for visuals.
Pie trays and ripped up grocery bags seem to make some noise too if the wind is right
-
Maybe a little more bedding in the floor of the cages too. As soon as I added that I got some action.

I know Jakeland also likes to put a little piece of beaver meat about the size of a quarter at the very front of the trap for a little taste to lead em right in.

-
Put a strip of plastic garbage bag to cover the roof of the cage
Cover the whole inside floor of it
Brush it in really really good
I like to hang a visual like a wing or something with some lure on it  hanging above the cage
Use castor and beaver or duck for bait
 And some patience
 Good luck !!

I got CDs hung up in front of most of my traps!!

I have lure coming from Minnesota trap line that will be here next week! Hopefully will help turn the tides for me.

Do you think if I smeared some lure on the back of that cd, it would work alright?

I think I need to cover my floors more. I just didn’t want to disturb the area any more than I have to.

Right now all I have seen in the snow are coyote tracks. I talked to some land owners that live close and they have frequent issues with bobcats killing their chickens. I think it’s just a matter of time.

Beaver castor is my favorite lure

				Also think like a cat
If a cat doesn't finish a meal he will stash it so make your cage completely covered all the way around he will try and steal the free meal from another cat. A little cat piss  next to the trap helps and a walnut size piece of bait at the edge of the door too.ive never used a CD so I don't know about that .wht lure did you order?

I like smearing Cavens Gusto on my visual attractor that goes up high.

Jake likes to spill the Gusto in his truck.

I will brush in all of my sets a little more tomorrow and I will go and pre bait another area as well.

I like the build of the trap. Looks well made.
I like the construction of the sets. I wouldn't change how you are making the sets.
I am not in love with the looks he sets. If you have seen cat sign there, say no more, good enough. Just based on the habitat though I would not be setting there. Not enough thick brush and the larger trees are shading out feed for small game. Pretty limited view I have though so maybe I'm not seeing what you are seeing.

I am setting in the area because I know the people who live down below the area and they have continual issues with bobcats over the years. So, I am assuming they are in the area. Pretty good system of jeep trails and everything else is covered in ferns that are about up to my thighs. It is very thick! I am also setting close to creeks as well and I saw some rabbit tracks in the snow a few days ago. I have my sets in open spots throughout this area.

Sign wise, I have a ton of coyote tracks everywhere around my traps. No bobcat tracks. I set based off the fact I knew they had issues with them before.

And thanks! I worked my butt off on those traps!

Looks great!  Hope you find closed doors soon!

				Good luck!

Sounds like some good advice from folks who know way more than me...

 Good Luck!
