Title: The Importance of Good Breeding....
Post by: lokidog on January 17, 2018, 11:55:53 AM
Shows in trainability and instinct.

Little Rey is 8 weeks and five days old.  She has played with some wings but never a whole bird.  It was only yesterday that we started doing any "real" fetch work by rolling a ball across the living room.

I shot a Bufflehead for her to work with.  When I got home, I let her smell it, flopped it in her face, then threw it across the yard.  With no hesitation, she ran to it, picked it up perfectly and brought it to me.

Careful on  using shot game for training purposes. The wdfw considers that wanton waste. You can get busted for traini my with game birds.

It will be grilled tonight with the gadwall I got today.  I wrap the bumpers with wings for long term use.

Here's another from last week. Went out to the beach, saw a couple of Mergs, snuck up, set the dogs , moved a little closer and boom, boom.  Amber held until I sent her and Rey came running up to me to see what was going on.  We definitely have a future hunter here.

Well, I'm not blessed with puddle ducks galore, so, to keep the dog working, and me shooting, I shoot Mergansers.  Also, if you know what you're doing in the kitchen, they taste just as good as any other diving duck like Scoter, Goldeneye, or even Oldsquaw.

Very beautiful dogs and it looks like that pup will be special with the older dog to learn from and a good owner
