Title: Pin size
Post by: Commando on January 29, 2018, 05:45:30 PM
Is .10 size pins worth it? I’m thinking of getting a new sight and was thinking of getting .10 pins for my 50-60 yd pins. Just don’t know if it’s worth the extra coin to customize it. I’ll probably shoot 100 plus in practice on the range but won’t shoot a animal farther than 50 if that helps at all

I think they are worth it.  They let you aim more precisely even at closer yardages. :twocents:

no doubt that a smaller pin helps with smaller (farther away) targets. for hunting I went with a .019 initially thinking it would help me see my pin in low light situations. I am happy with it but going to try a .010 this year als I do think it helps with long range accuracy.

I like the .019’s. Easier to see in low light and still plenty small for precise aiming at all yardage’s.  I have a 30” draw length though. But hey give the smaller ones a try you can always switch the out before season if you dont like them. What sights are you looking at?

My thinking is it will be easier to see the smaller target with the .10 at farther distances. But I’ve always shot the .19 so I’ve got no experience with the smaller pins. When I shoot anything farther than sixty I do notice the pin covers a lot of the target.
The other thing is I can get the sight for 250 if I don’t go custom and get all the pins .19. But if I go custom and get the 50-60 pins in .10 I’m looking at between 300 to 325.  So was kind of curious if the custom sight would be worth the extra cash

I’m getting the spot Hogg fast Eddie xl five pin

Pick the pin and pin color that YOU can see, I have watched people at 3D shoots hit the 10X at 100 yards with brass pins and nail polish for color on their pins. 0.010 pins are small and you should have no problem with them for practice or 3D shooting but remember that when hunting bigger is better. good luck with your search.

Well I ordered the fast Eddie xl. I went with the .19 pins for my 20,30,40 yard pins and .10 for my 40,50 yard pins. Went with green green red green green for my color pins

I'd say .19. I have 10 pins and honestly I've been in a few spots and just didnt have the brightness I wanted for hunting. That's is with a few different brands of sights.

.019's always too much glare for me.

Well I got my fast Eddie xl the other day. Absolutely love this thing. It’s way better then my old sdp. Grouping is way better for sure and just plain love it. I went with .019 for my first three pins and .010 for my last two and it’s great. Thanks for the help guys!
