I won't ask which bullet to shoot, but could use some tips on Caps to powder. I plan to hunt mulies and elk with this sucker. I noticed some pellets say use only with 209....are pellets hard to ignite with Western legal primers? I'm definitely a black powder noob.
I know there's a ton of info here and I've looked around alot. What's one more thread hurt?!
Any info much appreciated!

As an archery hunter, for some reason I like making things harder on my self. Im quickly going the way of trad bow and black powder. I feel comfortable always having a MS tag, and after striking out hunting early archery, and muzzy with a bow....Ismacked a really nice WT buck opening day 5 minutes after first light.
Fair chase means everything to me, and primitive seasons I feel should always be primitive!
SO....im gonna play with loose powder and see what I can come up with!

Were you able to get the bolt out?
I was, the little release knob was incredibly stiff and difficult to pull out. Im heading to the hardware store here soon to get a socket for the breech plug so I can do some cleaning. Shot it a few times times about 2 weeks ago, swabbed the barrel real good but I know the plug has to be dirty still.
Im officially obsessed with black powder!

I thoroughly cleaned my gun, and the final patch I sent through was dry. I left the breech plug out while I tracked down some grease, and for the heck of it i sent a patch down the barrel to find it came out with a very light orange hint on it.
The last time i patched it, it came out perfectly clean. Did I somehow set in motion some light rusting? The gun did not sit in the safe dirty at all.
Do I need to be worried about this? Or does anyone recommend using a product on the barrel before putting it back in the safe for extended period of time?

I would suggest just make sure the last thing you put in the bore is a very good synthetic bore oil.
