What's your woods bumming gun? If your just goofing off , checking trail cams or traps or shed hunting what's the gun you carry just in case something needs shot?
-
Marlin 336 or S&W Model 627.
-
g20 if no long gun
-
My Ruger 10/22 is what I usually bring. I've been on the lookout for a nice compact 223 or 22-250 lately. Something with a little more reach.

:yeah:
That’s what I do
Even during modern I bring my Glock 20 as last resort
-
If I am not carrying a rifle I bring a Ruger Mk IV 22/45 pistol. Easy shooting and fairly accurate. When I am back in the world I carry a compact .45 or .38 snubby. I like my woods pistol to be one that is fairly impervious to rain or rough treatment. Polymer frames and aluminum
parts help with that.
-
XD .45 Tactical set up to shoot 45 Super with 255 Grain Hard Cast flat nose.
-
For years I carried a 204 Ruger outside of big game season along with a 7mm TCU Contender for anything a little bigger. Ever since I had the little CZ 527 in 6.5 Grendel built though, it's been my go to walk about gun backed up with a Ruger Mk III Hunter.

I knew you were an "old growth operator", out there checking trail cams and scouting in the back country while still being prepared to take a sweet instagram pic with your gear.

Are you sure it's not a 6.5 Creedmoor?

I'll have to check with my overpaid gunsmith.
It may take a while as he had some "legal" issues in Vegas.
Honestly, I haven't had the time to shoot the rifle. Photo shoots, shameless social media posts and my part time gig at the local fine dining establishment have taken their toll.

Does your every day carry gun count?

Just picked up a cz 527 carbine in 7.62x39, seems to be a perfect little walking varmint/light deer rifle. Love that set trigger.
-
Glock 17 (115 fmj's) or 17L(115 solid copper +P+ Underwood Xtreme Penetrator) with two extra mags and one in the pipe. 52 lead or copper supplements ready for delivery.

What's your reasoning for going extreme penetrator vs hardcast Outdoorsman? I love the penetrator rounds, but when it comes to performance on big game the hardcast has a long and proven track record. I'm skeptical the lighter penetrators will outperform the Outdoorsman when it comes to smashing bones. Not a wide enough meplat. Anyhow, just curious what your reasoning was.
-
I like your thinking. I've always had a saying that you never know when you're going to come across something that is better off dead. I carry around a number of different pieces depending on the time of year. Usually either an SP101, an old Mark 1 (nostalgic for me), 10-22 or my A-Bolt in 243.
-
Shotgun
-
Always a ar15 ,backseat of truck,or over my shoulder ,getting firewood or checking trail cams ,etc.
-
I just picked up a Glock 20, but now I have a wild hair to get a threaded 22 with a suppressor! Mainly want that for during archery season.
-
Either my ar or 22 revolver
-
It used to be a Marlin 1894CL in 218 Bee when edible critters were on the list, now it's a Glock 19 for SD no need to kill anything I can't skin or eat.
Now it is a 222 Rem when pelts are good. Light loaded ammo in it for rabbits.
-
Unless I'm hunting I typically don't have a gun.

How does it shoot? I've talked to guys with those guns that said they shoot great, and others said they couldn't get them to group.

The Penetrator seems to have most of the characteristics of the hardcast from the research I did, plus you get the hydraulic action coming off of the side flutes. One of the videos I found showed them shooting a 380 with Penetrator and the flutes caused a 2x2 X though the ballistic gel.

Well, it'll be interesting to see once they're deployed on animals. I definitely see it in regards to tissue damage, but not on bones. Wish we could shoot solid brass flat nosed bullets. Back before those were illegal they were the gold standard.

Rossi 12 single shot, with a few rounds of 7 1/2 game loads and a couple of 00 buck.
I carry it around when scouting and running my dog in the timber around here. I've knocked down countless grouse and rabbits with it. The buckshot loads are for when I encounter a lion or bear. It will happen someday.

I'd have to see a pic of that!

Same here! I wouldn't even use a Bond Arm anything as a slip sinker on a Sturgeon fishing rig. :chuckle:

A well fed shotgun can take anything that walks or flys.

Sorry I missed your question. I've had this rifle for about 25yrs and have shot a ton of lead through it. it has always shot really nice. I like it for shooting off grouses heads. Squidward

I have had my sons youth 20 ga pump under the backseat of my pickup for literally years , it's all beat up and always works😊 I bought him a new Remington wing master 870 express for his come home from combat present, plus he out grew that little 20 ga but it sure is nice to have when I am deer huntn and see a grouse when I am driving

Grandad's 11-48.
2 rounds of 7.5s up front, backed by 2 round of 00 buck.
Cut off the 1950's Polychoke and had it cut to 20" and threaded.
