** Well folks, this ones over j_h_nimrod nailed it in a hurry!! **
Simple and straight forward. I post a picture of a case and you guys try to figure out what it is. What's a game without getting something in the end? I don't play poker for fun, it's all about jacking the other guys cash. You know, sending them home with no rent money or without the cash to pay for that engagement ring they got suckered into.
So here's the rules. Only one post and one guess of what the cartridge is per day(24HR Period)You can't post multiple guesses in a post.
One post per 24hr period, one guess per post.
I will give one hint per cartridge post above the picture.
First person to guess the cartridge on this go round gets a new CMMG AR15 complete premium lower parts kit sent out heir way USPS Priority Mail.
Here we go!!!
This case is properly headstamped with the chambering.

What was your process on figuring it out? I figured this would roll for awhile.
Please PM me your shipping info when you have the time.
-
So many wild cats... never even heard of the 6.5 Gibbs
I knew it wasn’t obscure enough but the 7mm Rem ultra mag came to mind.
-
:IBCOOL:
I first looked at it and thought .28 Nosler but then the magazine picture gave it proportion and I realized it was a bit smaller. I looked at the Gibbs when I rebarreled a rifle a couple years ago, it is a screamer and just a very cool cartridge that was way ahead of it’s time as were he rest of Gibbs designs. I ended up with a .240 Wby. Instead but seeing the picture rang a bell. I have a .375 Gibbs (not a true Gibbs design but along his idea) that is a really fun shooter.
Plus I did not figure you would not pick something easy and being correctly head stamped narrowed it down somewhat. PM inbound.
-
Cool idea for a thread! Guess I will need to get another lower now
-
Well done! I really like the .375 diameter bullets. A .375 Gibbs would be a great chambering.

Tagging
-
Let's keep the thread going. Someone can post a cartridge/case along with the prize for the first person to correctly identify it. All cartridges are welcome factory or wildcat.
One must though. It must be a cartridge/case you have in your possession. One that you take a photo of yourself. Same rules apply in the original post.
-
I'll send a headstamp pic to hammer for officiating.
Not a wildcat.

This is a tough one, I have a proxy vote via PM with the correct answer time stamped 0845 this morning. This one goes out to the judges for further review.

Thanks i a have Winchester 1885 highwall in .375 H&H. When i got the rifle i was reading up on the history of the cartridge i remembered that they released a rimmed or "flanged" version at the same time.Your box of primers gave a good size reference also.

.375 flanged magnum

Well done!
Mountainman had it via PM this morning. He can’t respond to the thread though.
-
Jay,.. you owe superdown that coffee mug.. :chuckle:
That sounds like a deal
-
out of curiosity would the correct answer be .375 flanged nitro express mag. since it is the neck down version of the .375 flanged mag.?the .375 flanged mag. 2.5 is not necked down. :dunno:
-
This is from wikipedia but i am no expert on it :dunno:
.375 Flanged Magnum[edit]
The .375 Flanged Magnum (9.5×75mmR), also known as the .375 H&H Flanged Magnum but should not be mistaken for the older .375 Flanged Nitro Express, the .375 Flanged Magnum is the companion cartridge to the .375 H&H Magnum for use in double and single shot rifles and was released together with the .375 H&H Magnum by Holland & Holland. It is considered the flanged (rimmed) version of the .375 H&H Magnum. The flanged cartridge is loaded to a lower pressure of 3,250 bar (47,100 psi) in comparison to the .375H&H Magnum.
-
375 h&h ?
Oops didn’t notice that flange !
-
so is the 375 h&h the same cartridge as the nitro express?
-
no the h&h is slightly longer case.
So what is the case in question?is it an H&H or is it the older Nitro Express?
-

It's 375 flanged magnum
-
awesome i didn't mean anything negative. could you give the case dimensions please i want to look it up in my book.they are all very close.
-
More importantly,Do you have this rifle?Is it a double?Is it a Hollis?Is it for sale?How much?
-

2.927 case length
.562 rim
.506 base
It's left over from a Searcy double that I did load work for.
Rifle had three sets of barrels. The other set was .470 nitro. Pic is with a loaded .470

I guess I'll set up the next round. Whoever guesses right can take their pick of either a Wenatchistan or Friday Night Flow Chart shirt (I can send you pics, but they may not be appreciated by everyone here. :chuckle:) or a window decal of your choice. Or if I can get Dale and the Admins to sign off on it, I can make a HuntWA shirt for the winner.
We're going for the case on the left. The case on the right is to give some scale. Good luck!

338-378 Weatherby Magnum on the left
-
338 ultramag on left
-
.408 cheytac
-
300 win mag left 243 right. Wish I were smarter at this stuff I really would like that wenachistan shirt. Lol
-
8mm rem mag on the left?
-
Whatever that left one is, it would make for a fine Blacktail brush gun.
(I was going to guess Cheytac, but got beat to the punch)
-
25 06 on the right ?
-
Can I play? ;)
:chuckle: :chuckle:
-
30-338 even though i'm sure its a 300 wm
-
Cheytac cases aren't belted and that maybe looks like a 270 Win on the right so I'm going to guess 375 Hubble Express or something with one of its parent cases.
Or is it a 375 Lethal Mag? Those would be my two guesses.
-
:yeah:
.375 lethal mag next to a .270 Win
-
7mm stw
-
I'm gonna make a request. To be able to make a real guess on these we need a view of the extractor groove.Otherwise it really is a guess.this one is a good one,I say it is a belted mag.with a 30deg. shoulder, neck down to unknown size.head appears to be same size as case body.this could be several cartridges but if we could see the extractor groove like a side view it would eliminate a bunch. :twocents:
-
30-378 weatherby
-
300 Win on left
.223 Rem on right
-
300 Win on left
.223 Rem on right
:yeah: beat me to it.
-
Are we still guessing head stamp here york?

That’s the point... it’s a guessing game... :chuckle:
-
There are to many rounds out there to keep up with these days. I think the one on the right is a 280 rem. left, who knows 338 caliber?
-
275 h&h mag.
-
308 baer
-
Can't you guys make this a little bit easier for some of us novices...you know, like including a photo of the headstamp? :chuckle:
-

Winner! It’s a 375 Hubel express with a 280 Rem next to it. This is the next barrel after I smoke the 338 SnipeTac on the rifle. I’ll get a picture up when I get home next to a couple more familiar cases.
-
Let's go one more round. For reference, the case on the left is a 30-06.

Beltless, long shoulder, looks like 30 cal. Hmm this cant be that hard .....??
-
338 norma?

8x68s
-
9X64
-
338 ultra
-
338 Lapua? That doesn't look quite right somehow but maybe just the pic. :dunno:
-
Looks closer to the 300 Lapua, but the shoulder doesn't look quite right.
-
some kind of H&H without a belt
-

I'll go with 300 norma mag or 300 rum? One of the 2 I would think.
-
I want to say the 300 rum case is a lot bigger than that but I definitely believe the norma could be that size.. but I have 0 experience with the 300 norma lol.
-
That gently rounded shoulder rules out some like the lapua.
-
375 Ruger?
-
8x68s
Well done! I really thought this one would have everyone stumped.

Holy crap that's a weird round! What are the ballistics like on it?
-
Awesome
That is a very obscure cartridge york. I'll admit I had to resort to google for this one. No belt and that soft shoulder gave it away.
-
Holy crap that's a weird round! What are the ballistics like on it?
It's nearly identical to a 338 Win Mag/325 WSM ballistically. It's said to be inspired by the old Newton cases and to have been the inspiration for the 375 Ruger case. I'm familiar with it because of the 7mm and 30 Boo Boo designed by Dave Tooley. I'm looking to use this case as the possible parent case for my 300 and 270 Boondoggle wildcats.
Awesome

Your Google-Fu is strong! I'll offer up a tee shirt or window decal for your prize if you're interested.
