Title: New to WA
Post by: flemdogg on February 18, 2018, 07:35:47 PM
Hello Everyone,

My family and I will be moving to the Silverdale area in a few weeks from San Diego. Former Artillery Marine that now works for the Navy. Also an avid hunter and fisherman. Almost made a move to Texas, but decided on the PNW. Looking forward to learning the area and getting my boots dirty.

Welcome  :hello:. Thanks for your service. There are lots of military guys on here an of course in the Kitsap area. Plenty of fishing in the local area and a bit of hunting too. Expand out a couple hours and you have almost everything .

Just what this site needed - another jarhead!  :chuckle: Welcome to the site and to the PNW.  Thanks so much for your service to our nation. What kind of hunting have you done and what do you plan to do here? Archery, rifle, deer, elk? Any stories about your hunting and fishing? Let's hear it!

Thanks for the welcome and support fellas. Yeah, I'm really excited to have all of those hunting/fishing options up there. Tons of new challenges and country to uncover, can't wait. I haven't hunted outside of CA, but I've done Southern Mule Deer, Turkey, and Pig. All rifle and shotgun. Definitely want to get into the elk and blacktail up there, as well as archery. I've already been researching muley and whitetail units out east. As for fishing, I have to admit I will miss fishing for yellowtail, and blue fin tuna, but I'm sure the Lingcod, rockfish, salmon, and halibut will keep me satisfied. I used to have a 17ft striper CC, but have been fishing out of my kayak for the past couple years. My old man and Grandfather actually live outside of Vancouver and love it. Honestly, just amped up to get out of CA and fortunate to have the opportunity to put roots down somewhere so beautiful.

KBH Archery Club is just south of you on the way to Belfair. If you want to get serious about shooting a bow join a club and shoot often!

Well, we are all settled in here up in Silverdale. Been here for about a month and a half. Starting to line up potential units for this fall. Not gonna apply for special hunts this year as my 90 days for residency wont be up in time for the application deadline. Plus I dont want to pay nonresident fees for not a high chance in drawing and getting a point. Thus, looking at the various OTC units and possibly a High Buck hunt if my schedule allows.

Welcome!  Washington needs more gun owners and outdoorsmen.  It's a lot better than the worst you'll see claimed on here, and a lot worse than the best you'll see also.  Thank you for your service!
