Title: A new (or old) commercial fishing method

The wild fish conservancy has been testing a fish trap on the Columbia for a few years. The results look very positive with survival rates of released fish well over 90% at McNary dam after being tagged at Cathlamet.

As ESA constrains our ability to harvest fish, old fishing methods may have to give way to more selective methods. I wonder if the salmon industry will ever move to truly selective commercial harvest?

Post by: lokidog on February 25, 2018, 12:03:03 PM: Reef nets out in the islands are a much better solution than purse seines and gillnets as well, and are the Traditional method used out there.

The old fish wheels in the rivers could be selective as well I think.

Too efficient and who decides how many will be released upriver to terminal streams for sportspersons? And why can we not just seperate at Bonneville? We have all the fish confined in the races.
