I've been on a bit of rifle buying spree lately...and am now looking at getting an AR15 with a bump stock (before they are illegal). I'm looking at the Slide Fire Colt LE6920 but really don't know that much about AR's except for using an M16A1 in ROTC many years ago.
So, I'm asking if anyone has recommendations on which AR to get and compatibility with a bump stock. Is the Slide Fire Colt a good option or are there better ways to go?
TIA
-
Not sure if you have shot one, but they are a novelty toy.
I had a beverage with a military buddy of mine and we discussed Bump stocks. He told me about military studies/discussions they have had. In full auto, after the first 2 rounds it was a waste of ammo. Ironically the army is moving away from 3 rnd bursts back to full auto...
Semi auto is where it's at unless uncle Sam is paying for your ammo.
They may be a good investment, or they may be a bad one if they don't grandfather then in.
Lots of accessories I would rather have instead, or more ammo.

Since you want a slide fire then any old piece of junk will work. Just get the cheapest piece of crap you can, shoot a few hundred rounds down range, then when the giggles wear off in 5 minutes set the whole rig in a dark dusty corner of your basement somewhere to collect spider webs.
-
Just my opinion---If you're going to use a bump stock on it, not really a point in going all out on the rest of the gun. You can only fire a bump stock so accurately, it really is spray and pray. A light weight, compact that can hit a metal drum at 50m would be fine.
-
Yeah, I'm sure you guys are right, but still think it would be a kick. I don't know, maybe the novelty would wear off quickly.
-
With the prices on AR rifles there are a lot of good used ones that folks took the hit on. 2c

Took me less than 5 minutes, buddy had one when they first came out. It's not like the real thing, you can't control it as well and it's a lot slower.
-
I'd spring for a suppressor over a bump stock.

The good news is you can always make a nice coyote gun out of it once the giggle wears off

I think you should find some one with a bump stock and burn a hundred bucks through it. Then figure out what style of at you want and what your going to do with it.

“Why am I a ‘no’ vote?” Senate Republican Leader Mark Schoesler asked. “Clearly this is the first gun seizure in the state of Washington, because if you are found in possession you are a felon.”
Republican Doug Ericksen argued that the ban on bump stocks would not stop a “crazy, psycho” person from committing a mass shooting. He also warned that the ban could lead to police entering the homes of otherwise law-abiding citizens to seize the devices.
“What you are doing is you are creating the ability for law enforcement to come into your home,” Ericksen said. “And you will not prevent any kind of activity like what happened in Las Vegas.”

Oh man, SB 5992 is ugly! :yike:
It's been amended and added too and it's sitting on Inslee's desk
-
I got one I'll sell you for $400 including shipping.

i think people are trying to make more out of bump stocks than what they are/intended to be....they are not an attachment to a semi-auto gun to make it shoot more accurate, they probably aren't the greatest home defense weapon and they won't win any long distance shooting competition. What they are is an attachment that allows shooters to fire more per second-period. Who needs this type of attachment--me/you or any other law abiding citizen that can legally buy one. Less than 1% of all fiream deaths in this country are attributed to AR-15 type weapons and less than 1% of those are attributed to "bump stocks". Yes they are a novelty item but i can tell you that due to my uncorrected vision problems I was unable to voluntarily join our Military back in the mid 80's. Since then i have always wanted to shoot a firearm that was as close to automatic that i could so i purchased one of these and proudly own/shoot it and am glad i was able to. Yes i can tell you that during a 30 round mag of shooting in just over 2 seconds that i can't keep all rounds within a "bulls-eye" but i can tell you that you don't want to be downrange either. Yes i know i will eventually lose my rights to own one and it makes me sad that now they have opened the door for what they want banned next

Full auto fire in over rated. Add a trinket and it is about worthless.
Then again, I feel if you are allowed to own a firearm then you should be allowed to own a "Bump stock". We should give up nothing to the left. Give them "Bump stocks" and they will continue to nickel and dime you to nothing. It's all about the left, socialist, progressive agenda. They will use, abuse, twist reality, walk on the dead and spew nonsense to disarm this Nation.

Except for covering fire on egress, I would agree.

hey if you want to try one out let me know...i have a range behind the house and you can shoot mine if you want...better use it before i have to get rid of it

Thankfully You make a great point!
I don't see my wife and I leap froggin anytime soon :chuckle:
I am not up on the up and coming WA law on bump stocks, how do they handle those who already legally bought one?
-
Why ban something that really is not gonna stop bump fire, that's the joke,i have heard of rubber bands, para cord, etc. can be used to make bump fire happen or nothing at all just takes practice.

This line of thinking leads me to think that we're weighing the 2nd amendment on a scale of whats useful or not in a civilian setting.
The 2nd amendment isn't about hunting, or sporting or whats useful or not, it's about a well regulated militia having access to weapons 'of a common use' so the gooberment doesn't go all tyrannosaurus on us sheeps.
-
If you are just trying to look like a tacticool mall ninja, some digital camo pants and a drab olive t-shirt that says "operator" would be a whole lot cheaper.
-
who you talking too? This isn't the 511 thread :dunno:
Or did the word "Militia" trigger you? Ya, it's not really a dirty word like you've been trained think when you hear it. It's been ruined by "mall ninja's" but it's still a legal concept in our constitution.
-
It sounds like the bump stock did pass ,and in July 2018 it will become illegal to buy or sell them ,in. July 2019 it will be a felony charge to own them, sometime between 2018-2019 the state patrol is gonna start a buy back program.

So you get a few months to check em out.
-
I need to read the proposed law I guess. If you buy one before they are banned, will it be illegal to own it after the ban is initiated? Or will they be grandfathered in?

If your going to quote me, quote me in my entirety. Don't spin it like the Mueller Investigation. Thanks👍

I quoted Alchase, yell at him for partially quoting you.

I think we are all on the same page. Don't give them one inch.

Why the hate on olive drab and fun switch on an auto...I enjoy the fun switch, and sometimes wear olive drab....
Never had a use for a bump stock but it's going to be a snowball effect... which reminds me I need to buy some more 30rnd mags.
-
I'm pretty sure no grandfather laws it will be illegal to buy, sell,or own one by 2019.

Haha! Who's yelling? Thought my 10 year old daughter was the only one being sensative this evening.

From the way I read it no grandfather law, felony offence, same charge as having a machine gun, short barrel rifle or shotgun, any gun that has a bump fire stock on it will be confiscated too.
You can read it here I may be wrong.

ya, it's pretty serious.
I think it'll fail a constitutional challenge per previous SCOTUS rulings but who wants to go first?

Real talk. If we, as mature responsible adults want to have access to high power weaponry, we have to police ourselves. That's the only way it works.
The gun industry has made one terrible error. It aligned itself with entertainment. The .44 mag was silly nonsense until Dirty Harry made it famous. The Desert Eagle was silly nonsense until a hundred movies made it the ultimate hand cannon. The gun shop I bought my first few guns was decorated wall to wall with movie posters of muscular heroes holding very specific, available guns. It got worse post 2000, when actual weapon manufacturers started sponsoring video games like Nikon sponsoring a movie about photographers.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a gamer. I've shot hundreds of thousands of digital Nazis right in their stupid Nazi faces. I love violent video games and I'll never stop playing them. But actual weapon manufacturers sponsor these games, and advertise within them, that's insane.
Let's get real. The more antisocial, pre-diabetic yahoos who can walk in off the street and buy AR's... It's only a matter of time before we lose them too.

That is just excuses for one of the two Political party who feels the need to control us smurfs.
If they were honest, they would admit, not one control law they have passed or attempted to pass, would do a dang thing to stop criminals being criminals.

I went with a collector to a Bellevue shop to help pick up a "call of duty" package once. It was all the guns used in the game. They were selling out fast because the guys from Microsoft rush in there to buy up anything featured in a game.
-
I can't stand people with logic similar to Magnanimus. IMO, they absolutely distort the intent of the Founding Fathers and eerily disregard what many of my family, friends, and I served for (and swore an oath to protect).
-
And Jimmy, what things have you purchased or "used" because they were made aware to you by an outside source? Anything on this forum? Maybe?
I think it's absolutely distasteful of you to go out of your way to identify people from this company, and basically suggest, they're some relation to these "digital Nazis." Correct me if I'm wrong, but they never went out and did anything illegal to your knowledge, correct? But, now they're weird... because, we are... you know... "real talk" right now.
Most of the guys that I served with overseas, who never came home, were taken out by IED's. Word over there though, was that local insurgents got fired up by all sorts of board games and radio broadcasts focusing on flip phones, wires, and creative ordnance. Give me a break. Get real.

I don't think mags is too far off...
How often do people come on here and complain about idiots at shooting ranges? I've seen it personally, people flagging others, shooting while people are downrange, someone using their scope to glass with... no safe handling whatsoever. I'll say it and rustle some jimmies - these idiots shouldn't be allowed to own firearms. Some people are just too stupid and irresponsible. For some reason, some people can't look in the mirror and admit to themselves that maybe, just maybe they need to take safety more seriously... or maybe they just shouldn't own guns. Then you've got the guys trashing the woods, I guess thats for another discussion...
My point is we're sitting here complaining about how they're trying to pass laws to make it harder to buy a firearm - and trying to stop it... when we've got idiots running around making us look like... idiots. Every person you know that does this is just giving them more ammunition. Same with lands being closed up to public use, every idiot leaving their trash around just makes it worse for the rest of us. I don't really want more government oversight, but I also don't want to risk some retard shooting me. Its a catch 22.
-
Come on Jeff, with that logic we should be discussing driver's licenses and automobiles. How many people have ever been killed unintentionally or intentionally on a shooting range?
-
We should be! It’s rediculous the amount of idiots on the road today, I’d be all for having to retake your drivers exam every other renewal. Sounds like a fair deal for the privilege of driving 3500lbs of steel around... but that’s another discussion.
-
Yeah, I hate every other driver but me too. In all seriousness, I understand where you are coming from. I take range safety and driving safety, very seriously. I drive the speed limit and I am tail-gated. I try to be over cautious at the range and I'm eyeballed.
All I'm saying is that the "ought a be a law against that" approach isn't American, IMO (and certainly not Northwestern IMO, historically). There are existing laws in place to enforce gun issues. These have not been enforced. While I believe they should be, the issue is man. In parts of Europe where guns are, for the most part, illegal, the criminal element has turned to knives. These are also highly regulated. Despite this, people are shivved every day. Bombs are illegal, but they go off in churches, temples, and mosques, around the world every day.
-
Jeff,
Before I close out, I also wanted to add the following...
To me, a firearm is just another tool. I'm not scared of them. I do not feel like any of them are some sort of a "dark" object. According to you, Jimmy, and minimus, that's how we're supposed to feel and respond to them? That was my interpretation and that's where I'm coming from.

TIA
Don’t bother buying a bump stock. The possession of them is being banned. You have to turn them in or become a criminal, at least until any legal challenges get that changed. They’re planning to offer people “up to $150” to buy back your $400 bump stock, so... unless you’re looking to take a bath on one, I’d avoid it all together.

3500 lbs? That it? I had more than that in the back of my pickup truck the other day!

MJ & Jeff's points are against everything I think of for individual freedoms.
Since they are both gun owners we know that they have more in common with pro gun folks, so while we can disagree on principle what kinds of things can be done?
Education and outreach are 2 areas that are longer term investments but still allow us to keep our principles intact. 2c

Didn't say I didn't approve of them selling. So, you did read it wrong. I'm fine with them selling whatever is legal to whoever is legal. I'm just agreeing (one of those rare times) with mags that I have seen how video games drive a fairly strong demand for certain guns, enough so to change up the store a bit. It was kind of a weird day when guys were coming in and calling constantly to try to get a SCAR or PS90 "just like in the game".

I know someone who has a 3D print file to print the bump stocks. If he prints out about 10 of them he can make some money. :dunno:

Guess it depends on the upcoming law(s).
