Title: Need a new ride
Post by: Chase2008 on March 02, 2018, 07:30:35 PM
Time for a new ride. Looking for a used SUV or minivan.  No kids but multiple dogs so looking for something that I can put a few dog crates in comfortably. Needs to have the ability to be flat in the back for dog crates. Either lay flat seats or removable.

Open to suggestions and also what to stay away from in terms of bad vehicles in that class

Thanks all

We really like our 05 Nissan Pathfinder though it did have some issues as this is the first year of 05 thru 12 generation Pathfinder. Like any redesign, get a few years into it and most of the flaws are worked out so I would recommend the 2008 to 2012 models. The 05's and maybe 06's(not sure) had a radiator issue where the transmission fluid might mix with the engine coolant ruining the transmission. I changed out our radiator at 95k miles before this could happen.

They feel solid, truck like, but ride super nice down the freeway. Plenty of power to comfortably tow our 16ft boat. My wife averages 18mpg running around. The two rows of back seats fold down flat and fits our dog carrier.

At almost 180k miles ours still feels new. Doors close nice, seats are holding up well etc.

Heres one in Milton Freewater(somebody was high when they put that crome stuff around the doors) that has a pic of just the furthest back seats folded down.

Going to look at a 2009 Flex AWD this evening. 86000 miles on it. Anything in particular to look for on these rigs

pickup with a canopy is probably a better route with dogs. I had a tahoe that I toted my dogs around with in the back and even in crates, the hair and dog smell was tough.

More truck like use or mostly on road? My wife has an 03 Honda Pilot, 3rd row seating, both seats fold flat and you can even sleep in there if needed. Very reliable vehicles and clean versions of older ones are pretty reasonable. 240k miles and counting.

K5 blazer. Full size. Take it hunting. Go anywhere. Terrible gas mileage but rides decent. Oh and the rear seat folds out of the way.
Never seen anyone load a deer into a ford flex but hey there's always a first time.

My wifes outback is great.
Fits all your needs and your budget could get you something pretty new.
Edit: just checked on autotrader and saw a bunch of nice ones in that price range.

Thanks for the replies. Checked out the flex. Concerned about a couple of things so passed.

Have 4 dogs so need room for a lot
Of crates. Wife passed on vans so sienna is out.

Mainly on Road as it is my wife’s ride. A
Little gravel but nothing too rough

Looking at the pilot. Sat in one today and seemed nice

Budget changed to around 10k as life happens
