Title: How do you carry your optics?
Post by: banishd on March 06, 2018, 07:40:21 PM
Hey, I am new to bow hunting, just bought a used 2015 Prime Alloy and have just added a new sight, quiver, stab, all that. I also picked up a new rangefinder with TBR. I am wondering how many of you archers carry binos and how you carry them. I use a Kuiu bino harness but was looking at that today and I'm concerned it will be in the way when drawing back. How/what do you guys use to keep binos out of the way?

S4 lockdown holds them tight to my chest and never gets in the way.

+ 1.Yes and when you're scanning you can lock your arms to your chest while you view making scanning for longer periods much easier as they help hold your arms up.

Big fan of the kuiu harness.  KISS.  Simple and not alot going on.

Alaska Guide Creations.  The main compartment holds my binos, my phone goes in the top stretchy pocket for easy navigation access, my windicator is on the right side, elk cow calls in the left pocked, rangefinder in the front pocket and my emergency/survival stuff in the lower pocket.  Works great, only thing I would change is a redesign of the top flap/phone stretchy pocket thing.  I can make it work, but it could be better.

Kuiu harness is as good as it gets for bow hunting IMO. The only downside is there isn’t much room for other stuff in the harness, although my tags stay in the bottom of the pouch under my binos. Stays tight to the chest and still offers total protection of your glass from dust and light rain. Never tried the ALaska guide creations, looks nice also.

I carry mine in the bottom of my pack.  :o

I’ll usually pull them out during lunch time or long breaks.

Another with the Kuiu bino harness. No clearance issues with my bow. I attached an FHF range finder pounce next to it also, on a bungee lanyard. Kuiu now has their own ranger finder pouch which can be attached underneath the harness or next too. Good system.

The sting isnt really coming across your chest. You could have a basketball taped to your chest and there wouldnt be any interference.

I use an FHF harness and range finder pouch.

IM an S4 lockdown guy as well. I just didn’t want the bulk of a full size harness. This thing definitely does the trick. Easy to get to, Binos are totally protected and they aren’t bouncing off my chest all day hiking around anymore..

I find binoculars essential when stalking mule deer.  Even at 50 yards I am using them to see which way the eyes are facing, picking up on cues on whether it senses me coming in (ie: flaring nostrils, ear position, stops chewing, etc).  Looking through tiny gaps in foliage to see if another deer I hadn't seen previously might bust me.  I'm not sure what the harness is, but it works.  Pretty sure its a Sportsman's Warehouse cheap neoprene harness.

Bino harness and a belt clip for the rangefinder. Keeps the rangefinder close and when it's wet or traveling quickly tucks in my pocket nicely.

I use a harness and if it's wet out I have a chest strap cover for it.

+1 on the Kuiu, never had a problem. I like it cause I can use one hand to pull my binos out, quick glass or range, then put them back and lock them down so they are not bouncing or swinging if I need to move or draw from a less than ideal stance.

Pretty much same setup I use. Tried kuiu and badlands each for year or so before deciding this was my favorite.

Another for Alaska Guide Creations. Wind checker on top in the stretchy pocket. Knife on one side, headlamp on the other. Phone keys wallet etc on the bottom. Bino's in the big pocket on the east side, handgun (kifaru pistol/mag carrier) on the west side. Rangefinder in the smaller front pocket. Lenspen and tags in the back pocket.
