Title: Clear Lake - Yakima
Post by: Jolten on April 13, 2018, 04:25:36 PM
Anyone been up there the last few days? Was hoping to get the kids out fishing and hoping it hasn't snowed in.

We were at the Cove Resort on Rimrock last Saturday, no snow there.

If no luck at clear, try the lower of the two lakes that start with an L north of the highway. Fly fishing was on fire last December there. Probably could catch a fish with any natural like display.

The upper of the two lakes that start with L is decent right now.  Not an easy to place to fish once it warms up and weeds up.  Clear has been planted with 12,000 fish with another 8 thou to come.  Almost impossible not to catch fish there.

More seriously, it's one of my go-to spots to fill the freezer.  I do strike out occasionally (like I did on Tuesday night), but generally great fishing.

Don't ever free climb the rock walls at Clear Lake... you may find yourself in a precarious spot.

What part of Clear do you fish? The docks,Summer camp side or the dam side?

We fish from the day access area on the N. side of the lake, 5$ to park.   Go out on the point opposite from the fishing platforms.  Good spot for kids, good grassy spot for the old man to take a nap.

Same area as Dslayer, but head out towards the bird watching platforms off of the walkway. Grew up fishing for them with miniature marshmallows and nightcrawler combo and have caught some dandies. For hatcherry trout, I've found fishing right near the camp side of the spillway is a good spot. Charteuse anything is killer.

A guy can catch a few fish ice fishing in the winter and also near the clear creek inlet while sitting over decoys waiting for the ducks and geese to come in.

As far as rimrock goes, *cough cough* there's no fish in there. Night crawler off of the bottom if you want to keep entertained catching suckers and the occasional wild rainbow and cut throat. Did catch a really nice bull trout off of the point in 2012 on my kokanee setup.
