Title: Our families ID bear season
Post by: n_mathews13 on April 14, 2018, 05:11:52 AM
Well, machias started his and got me all excited!

We ( uncle, cousin and nephew, sister, mom and dad, the wife and I and kids of course) are getting ready for our Idaho hunt. A few of us hope to go in a couple weeks, but snow my hold us up. A couple spots are below snow level but a couple of main ones are still out of reach. Should be exciting this year, tags also came in the other day,

So you make Carmel corn for them? :dunno:

Pop corn is a cheap base for bait ( compared to dog food)and you can make a ton of it. You guys use a shaker barrel?

Not as of Sunday. Got some fresh grease and fryer oil on it Sunday afternoon and I’ll be going up tomorrow night to see. Weathers warm right now so it’s been up there cooking

Made it home.
Got a few baits set. Weather was great. Snow was a pain and fun. Kept us from getting to uncles spot. I'm excited  to go back in 2 weeks and see how they are doing.

Had 1/4 of a barrel worth of popcorn burn up . To much oil got dumped in with the popcorn. Could have been a big deal, used it as a visual for kids.

Well, had a productive day. Have a couple bears. This guy is my target.  Heard turkies all day. BUT, got home at 2:am and when I turned on my street my truck steering and brakes started acting up. Not sure what I need to do. Leaven for the hunt week in 5 days .

Sorry to hear about your truck.

Not sure if it matters, but that bear looks like a sow to me.

You see her eyes?
She looks either real old or has a white ish ring. I'd say she is cubless, had a few pics but just her

Why do you think it’s a sow? I don’t think it matters but nothing sticks out that says sow? Bear pictures are tough to decipher sometimes but just curious I don’t see it

Well. Made it home. Was a good tripe, full of ups and downs. It was one of those trips were you felt maybe this was a sign not to go, but full of those signs.  But, we had a good time and enjoyed being up there. Filled 3 tags out of our group. Did some hunting with another forum member. Big thanks to him for helpn us out.
Got to see a 5 or 6 bears, a moose, and a ton of turkey. Need to buy a tag for them next year. Uncle saw a cougar and black wolf.
This is a pic of my cousin and his first bear, his son also filled a tag
