Title: Delorme Inreach
Post by: sagerat on April 15, 2018, 08:55:43 PM: Can anyone tell me the differences between the SE(yellow) and explorer(orange)? Also, will they take batteries or only run on the internal one? Thanks

Post by: Magnum_Willys on April 15, 2018, 09:04:16 PM: The yellow is primarily for txting. The orange adds navigation - gps but its really cumbersome - use your phone or a garmin instead.

An if your just using it to text a few times a day am keeping it shut off most the time the battery should last you a week easy.

Post by: Holg3107 on April 16, 2018, 07:23:42 AM: I have the original yellow model and love it! honestly I really don't see a need for the orange (GPS) model as the yellow model can link with your phone via blue tooth and connects all of the GPS info to your phone, just remember to turn Bluetooth off when your not texting or checking GPS as it will eat the batteries in both your phone and the unit. As far as battery life I have kept my unit on while hiking and transmitting my location every 30 mins. to my buddies and I still got 4 days of battery life with that type of usage. I also carry and Anker charger for my phone and DeLorme.

Its honestly the most important piece of equipment in my pack as I primarily hunt backcountry alone. Its major piece of mind for my wife and family.

This was the Delorme Inreach, orange version. I don't think you can get the Garmin version for anything close to $250. :)

My only concern with the battery is a few years down the road when or if it starts to weaken. Still seams like the best option though.

. You really need to use phone with inreach for best experience so if you have phone anyway you may as well use that for Onx.

Post by: Stein on April 19, 2018, 09:20:04 AM: I don't remember if I paid an annual fee but can confirm that you can turn the service on or off easily on their website whenever you want with no extra fees, you just pay for the months you want at whatever level subscription you want. Once you turn it on, it renews monthly automatically, you need to log in and suspend if you don't want to be billed the next month. It is good for 30 days from when you turn it on before it renews. You can also suspend mid-month and it will stay on for the rest of the 30 days.

There online site is really good, easy to use and you can also change up your fixed messages to say whatever you want.

The newer yellow one. Im not planning on using it as a primary GPS. More as a safety device.
