Can anyone tell me the differences between the SE(yellow) and explorer(orange)? Also, will they take batteries or only run on the internal one? Thanks
-
The yellow is primarily for txting. The orange adds navigation - gps but its really cumbersome - use your phone or a garmin instead.

I picked up the orange and need to get it setup and play with it a bit. My understanding is MW is right
-
Thanks. What about the battery?
-
Batteries our internal.. so you’d have to get something like a portable charger if your concerned about battery life. I have the yellow one. An if your just using it to text a few times a day am keeping it shut off most the time the battery should last you a week easy.

I have the original yellow model and love it! honestly I really don't see a need for the orange (GPS) model as the yellow model can link with your phone via blue tooth and connects all of the GPS info to your phone, just remember to turn Bluetooth off when your not texting or checking GPS as it will eat the batteries in both your phone and the unit. As far as battery life I have kept my unit on while hiking and transmitting my location every 30 mins. to my buddies and I still got 4 days of battery life with that type of usage. I also carry and Anker charger for my phone and DeLorme.
Its honestly the most important piece of equipment in my pack as I primarily hunt backcountry alone. Its major piece of mind for my wife and family.

Cabelas had the orange one for $249 last week. i picked it up for my Coribou hunt up in the Brooks Range.

If you can pick up any of the units for $250 your in good shape! I purchased the older DeLorme SE (Yellow Model) 6 moths ago for $250 so if you can get the Garmin version for $250 buy it!

This was the Delorme Inreach, orange version. I don't think you can get the Garmin version for anything close to $250. :)

I have the yellow old one pre Garmin and it works amazingly well. I agree, the best combo is On X on your phone, Inreach for texting and a spare battery bank, but you will likely only use it for your phone unless you are in longer than 3 days.

If you watch for coupon codes, you can get the Garmin SE for under $300. I will be buying one before this upcoming season, just waiting til I can score one for that price again.

My only concern with the battery is a few years down the road when or if it starts to weaken. Still seams like the best option though.

I have an older yellow one also. Use as others paired with my phone as a GPS. I have a couple of free downloaded map apps that are fantastic
-
I wish i could download onyx maps on them. Anyone guess when that will be available?

. You really need to use phone with inreach for best experience so if you have phone anyway you may as well use that for Onx.

I just picked up a new Garmin SE from Cabelas in Tulalip for $255! score!

Nice!!

The square bodied se or the more rectangular se+?

Just bought the orange Delorme inreach explorer on Gpscity.com for 250$, no tax and free shipping. Seems like a pretty good deal and I know my wife will be happy.
-
So it looks like you’re required to pay a $25 annual fee with the freedom plan and then you can buy 30 day plans of your choice whenever you want during the year. Can anyone clarify?
-
I don't remember if I paid an annual fee but can confirm that you can turn the service on or off easily on their website whenever you want with no extra fees, you just pay for the months you want at whatever level subscription you want. Once you turn it on, it renews monthly automatically, you need to log in and suspend if you don't want to be billed the next month. It is good for 30 days from when you turn it on before it renews. You can also suspend mid-month and it will stay on for the rest of the 30 days.
There online site is really good, easy to use and you can also change up your fixed messages to say whatever you want.

The newer yellow one. Im not planning on using it as a primary GPS. More as a safety device.

Where would a guy need to be watching to find the best price on the “yellow one”...seems like that’s the way to go for many of us.
