When do they generally have the results for Oil tags? I'm in for Moose.
It was May 18th last year, though the regs say by June 10th. I know they have the new admin system this year, so may take longer.

Do they draw for specific hunts in an order? Or do they randomly draw apps and then see if the choice is open?

Non res can draw up to 10% of tags for that species and unit. Just thumb through the draw odds. The non rez average for drawing is literally 0% (that’s with the 6 non rez guys that drew a sheep tag last year) You actually have a better chance of drawing a sheep tag with the point system in Washington as a residentBut they all have a chance, the odds are low, but its not a "donation". Its a chance at a sheep tag for any non-resident that applies for any of the sheep units...including the highly coveted Unit 11 tag.
Idaho sheep odds in 2017: 9 tags for 1,722 NR applicants
Washington Sheep: 17 tags for 12,254 applicants.
Maybe if you have 15+ points your odds are equal or slightly better...maybe. For anyone in Washington with less than about 2 decades of points right now, your odds are higher in Idaho as a NR.

If you've already made the commitment that you're going to hunt an Idaho OTC tag and you have money enough for the OIL tag, you're only out the price of the application fee each year. Yeah, you have to front the cost of the tag when you apply but if you don't draw it they refund you the money. Considering that I put in for deer, elk, and antelope each year and would only be able to put in for the OIL tag instead of those, it becomes more of a wash financially.

There is also some controlled turkey hunts over on the snake river in eastern Idaho, I think it is a newer growing population of birds over there, as far as unit 38 there are a lot of birds but it would be like unit 39 deer hunting if it weren't controlled. As far as the controlled bear hunts in unit 22,31,32, and 32a those again have to do with relative ease of access from Boise and the fact that that country is so open the bears wouldn't stand a chance if it weren't controlled

I know the reasons they have the bear tag I don’t get why people fall all over each other trying to draw them when a ton of otc tags are excellent and you could fill 2 tags without too much effort. I have been told it’s an excellent hunt but so are a bunch of otc 2 bear areas. If I lived right in the unit or very close I would put in otherwise I will just buy a tag and shoot one in my local area. people putting in for turkey tags other than locals living right in the unit is just ridiculous with all the turkeys we have. It’s just something I don’t personally get but I am starting to believe you could have a draw for anything and a bunch of hunters would jump on it simply because they are addicted to the draw itself and not even considering the hunting opportunity. Either way it doesn’t matter and has no impact on me so I guess I don’t really care. To each his own I just commented because as I said I don’t really get it
Back to topic I think we will have results first week of June. If we don’t I am not going to worry about that either idfg has done more for opportunity for the average hunters than any other state so if they are late on results I don’t care. I will get my goat tag either way wether first part of June or July :chuckle:

Dear sportsmen of Idaho, a few years ago Senator Brackett introduced a bill making the F&G change to a different system for the draws, At this point they are later than they have ever been for the OIL tags, the bear tags had issues as well. So instead of being upset with IDF&G please make sure you show your appreciation to Sen Bert Brackett Home (208) 857-2217
For those of you wanting transparency in the draws that did not understand them in the first place, make sure you call and support this cluster :)
BTW this was sold as a $120,000 and will cost the F&G 1.2 mil to have this mess.

Anyone else noticed that they have yet to publish the 2018 OIL and bear draw odds also? This probably is due thanks to the new vendor also. :dunno: In years past the draw odds were released at the same time as the draw results. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice to see what the odds were and who ended up with my tag. :chuckle::yeah: I like to look over the odds.

I am currently still waiting to receive mine.I have not and was just asking my wife about it last night. I paid for myself and a buddy so I am really anxious to get the refund. Maybe dump it in one of the raffles here...... :rolleyes:
You should read the post on MM about paying for a buddy sounds like your get your refund and good luck on getting your buddies even though you paid.

Lol there was a couple guys that paid for family and friend and the new system was only returning one applicate refund.Nice, I have a phone call in to them. Thanks for the heads up, I will let them know that I am looking for the refund of both fees. My concern is my credit card got hacked so they sent me a new one. Not sure if they can credit me back as easy. I will post back to this thread what comes of it.

Just got off the phone with Idaho fish and game. We should see refund no later than the 17th on our credit cards. If you paid by check you should of already had your money back.:tup:

That’s weird I’d never heard of them crediting cards in the past I’ve always gotten refund checks sent.
They refund mine back to my credit card every year....
