My trophy room includes 4 muleys, 2 whitetails, 1 elk, 1 desert bighorn sheep skull from AZ and numerous sheds. I'm always trying to upgrade each year by replacing the smaller ones with bigger ones.

My trophy room has been desicrated with a sewing machine. I think its time to threaten to put a mount in the bathroom. I love the commercial where there is a deer head hanging in the shower. :chuckle:
Cool rooms guys...
My dream room is actually a building with a bar in it and pool table, a big TV etc. Sort of like an entertaining room with a fireplace. I'd like to have my mounts and eventually my Dads hanging in there. Antlers everywhere, maybe a bar sign or two. I then imagine throwing end of the year hunting parties and inviting a bunch of hunt-washington folks. :brew:
-
Here is my room. The whitetails are from WA, ID and MT. The bears are from WA and B.C. The blacktail and the mulies are all from WA.
-
i'll be there, bone...name the day and time.
my trophy room would just be a picture of my garage with some small antlers, some turkey feathers and a couple moose sheds...not much.
:'(
-
you had my sympathy jackelope until you mentioned moose sheds. :bash:
I chose to do PVC instead of heading up to Colville yesterday.
Cools room KH...whats the story behind ole one horn. I just about anchored a buck like that year before last until he turned and looked at me. I then got to watch him give a to a doe. His antler was broke off just above the base. Dang that had to hurt.
-
Love the Deer with only one side of his rack. Whatis the story behind that. I have never had any one bring me a deer with only one side.
-
I was doing a drop camp in the Manson unit and I had shot the deer on the last day of the hunt. That unit is VERY steep and rugged. I had a difficult shot quatering away down hill and managed to shoot the antler off on my first shot. I dropped him with my second shot and then had to hurry to get him gutted and close enough to camp to get the horses to him when the packer showed up early the next morning to pack us out. I looked around for the antler for as long as I could. It was tough to look for as the buck rolled down hill approx 4 to 5 hundred yards after I dropped him. He measured 15 1/2 inches from the middle of his skull to the inside of his one remaining antler. This would have made him over 30 inches if I hadn't whacked his other antler. I just had to get him mounted. I'm not sorry that I did. He gives me lots of memories every time I look at him.
-
He's a dandy for sure. Thanks for the story. I'd have mounted him for sure.
-
Kent,
That is awsome. Lot of people don't know this but you can actually have sheds mounted. I fasten them to a cast skull plate and mount as normal.
One of these days I am going to mount a set of sheds. I am going to have a 2 1/2 - 3 foot floor pedestal made with a flat base on top. Going to put a little habitat on top and mount the deer with one horn on his head and one on the base below it. Like he just dropped it. The deer will be looking down at the shed.
I bought a set of 170" Mule Deer sheds and a set of 132" Columbia Blacktail Deer Sheds. I am probably going to use the blacktail sheds.
I am looking for a bigger set of Columbia Blacktail Sheds (matched set). Looking for 140 Class and up. Will also take a rack on the skull plate. Don't want a Bench leg!
-
I've had the same idea. Radically cool minds think alike. I've mounted a set of elk sheds and also a set of muley/ two point antlers that I have history with. When the finish work is done, we'll get some pictures. I stained the two point antlers and am EXTREMELY happpy with the job. You can't tell its not natural. I detest stained antlers.
-
I've thought about having my matched set of moose sheds mounted on a skull for a euro mount. The local taxidermist says he can mount them without anyone noticing that they were mounted that way. It might look cool.
-
Buckblaster,
If your taxidermist is good than he can do it. The heavier the horns the more supposrt they need.
-
The fake skulls they are coming out with are amazingly realistic. I've seen a couple deer and an elk, and they are quite impressive. If you are real creative you can have one moose done and have the antlers change out with the square pens inserted into them for removable antlers. I was going to do that with my extra shiras cape, but I ran out of steam. PLUS the trophy barn isn't done, and it was pretty hard to justify another full moose mount in my home. heheheheheheeeee
-
blaster...if i could have found the other side to my bigger one, i would have done that in a heartbeat. that would be cool as could be.
there was a guy on MM that was selling repro skulls for deer and elk, but i never saw mention made of a moose skull, although i'm sure they are around.

I think either Research Mannikins or Mckenzie has them, probably the latter.
-

Those bucks are awesome!
-
I was looking at your room and admiring the bucks when my wife walked by and glanced over my shoulder. Is that our house.....nope......you mean to tell me someone else has a house like ours. hehehehehehehheeeeee Nice mounts!
-
Nice bucks Garett. Throw in that late season dink raffle buck and my jaw will hit the floor. Hey just curious how wide your NT buck was.
-
Why can't I see those pictures??? I can read the text, but no pictures :bash:
-
Some computers, especially those at professional businesses have firewalls that will not allow photobucket pictures to show. I don't have a clue if that is it, but one reason....
-
I have a problem seeing "Coon Dogs" photos. Not sure why! I can see everyone elses.
-
iron head, if i remember right he is 25 1/2 inches wide. Bone- i am glad you like, and yes there are others out there haha. And i cant wait to get dads raffle buck up there, and even my little baby 26 incher from 06. i cant wait just thinking about it!!!
-
Dude, you're racking up the taxidermy fees, you need to start doing your own. :)
-
haha i know!!! i cant complain though. i dont want to jenks it haha.
-

First of all I am jealous, because if I were to hang a deer head in my office, I'd be hauled off and flogged. Flaming liberal do-gooders.... second, (and here comes the friendly ribbing) Its a good thing Washington went to three point or better so you would quit shooting those two points. ;)
Wheres Mr Javelina?
-
thats him hanging to the right of the crossbow...yeah I put a hurtin on the two points and spikes in my youth!
-
Sure enough, I was thinking you had done a headmount. My bad. That was sure a fun hunt. I have that license this year, and was thinking about doing that again. That might be next years license though. hmmmm I'll have to research that.
-
YEAH you would need an 08 license...I put in one other time but the cost had gone up and the permits down and I didnt get drawn. We sure found a good place though!
-
Probably a golf course there now.
-
My dad doesnt wnat me to show all the pictures of his animals.. so ill just say them all... well.... he has 25+ deer... including 2 big blacktails... and a bunch of smaller blacktails... 7 mulies... a 2 by 3.... a 3 by 3.... 3 4 by 4... and a 3 by 4.... 1 mt. goat... 3 bear... a bighorn sheep... and i think 12 elk... 9 with bow... 1 pronghorn... 1 caribou... i think thats it
Damn your Dads trophy room must be the size of a gymnasium :o
-
I've got most of my critters farmed out to friends and relatives because I dont have the space right now. Once our house and trophy/game room is done this fall/winter, I'll post some pics. I cant wait! I have to move the half dozen that I have left down to my barn for the duration of the construction.
-
man those rooms are cool. i just have mounts all over the house not just in one room. we might add on soon and if we do i will hopfully get a room to fill with trophys and stuff.
-
Heres the trophy's on the wall...We have 4 head mounts in the house and hope to add to it this year! Here they are The two bucks with the bull are both Washington Bucks. I killed the one on the left when i was 15 and my dad killed the one on the right 4 years ago. Bull is a montana bull from around Gardener..Same with the 5x4 deer.
-
well here's my small collection of one head so far and a turkey. haven't got my 08 mount yet. the mule deer is from Wyoming around Cody. The turkey is off a friends property in Kettle area, 9 3/4 inch beard and like an 1 1/2 spurs. can't wait for my 08 muley 8x9 178 1/8 net n.t. (washington buck).
-
man u boys are doing good...those are some amazing trophies to be proud of for sure!
klick, your snowy buck pic is my #2 favorite field pic Ive seen on this site. I love it every time it pops up!
the only one I like better is a muley buck with a bright red sky in the background thats looks like a shawn mccully (popeshawnpaul) pro pic!
great buck and pics!
-
Well here is my dead animal room. The two deer closest to you are both whities. Shot in the exact same spot, the 4x4 was tooth aged at 11 1/2 and my first whitie 5x6 below him was shot on my first whitetail hunt ever I will give you guys the story later. He was 6 1/2 years old. All the ones in the middle are blackies. My 5x5 scores 126 p&y and the one next to him was a huge nt but broke off his inside mainbeam. He had 4 more points on it I will post a photo of him alive with it later. The one on the end is my dads 1st deer shot in 251 you can read a little bit more on him on the mission 251 thread. A few bears from around the house. A bobcat and coyote pelt. My 12 and 16 pt. free rangestags from N.Z. and my biggest bear to date. I also have a bunch of sheds all around the house and a skull collection. I have a speedgoat coming back and another toad mulie from my dad. And a 6.4lb largemouth that is a male. Maybe some day I will draw my bull tag. All critters except stags were shot here.

-
Here is ours. These include my three muley's, my sons little 4x4, my bear rug, lifesize, and shoulder mount, a raccoon rug, a whitetail mount, and my 94 blacktai two point. All were mounted by me except for the blacktail and the raccoon rug. Those were done by Fidalgo Taxidermy in Anacrtes. The river rock fireplace was done by a friend who is a masonry professional. He did the fire place and I mounted two blacktails and a mule deer for him.
-
Here are a few pics of my stuff!

Well, I think I finaly have some of this together. The Question is where are we going to put the Eourpean Moose head and the full couger mount? Any out of work contractors want to build us a trophy room??? :dunno:

-
Man, After seeing all this I wonder if I will be able to even come close to any of this. Been on this earth 56 years so far, hope I can at least get a fiew of the same animals maybe in my next 56 years :chuckle: Awesome rooms all you guys and gals. Makes you feel like part of the family when someone shares part of their home with ya. Best damn hunting site on the internet. Thanks Scot
-
Wow after seeing all this I think I am going to have to post some pics on here. It will take a bit though as I do not have a trophy room I have a trophy house. Different theme for each room. Helps alot is the wife is a hunter also so we have fun decorating.

Wow. Now I am jealous. Spend much time up north...???
I love the whitetail munching on the tree. I have a smaller whitetail rack that I was thinking about doing something interesting with... might steal your idea. Don't worry, I won't do it nearly as well as you did... :chuckle:
-
I've been hunting for years and never got anything mounted until this year because of the cost. I get my snowgoose back in June and now I can't wait until next year to get 2 or 3 more ducks done!
awesome rooms guys, I really like the decor. Some of you have a scary good fashion sense....

That's why I do my own taxidermy. Some stuff comes out a little rough, but at least I can afford it, and it's fun...
-
I've been thinking a bit about doing my own taxidermy, but... I run a small business with my dad and we have about 15-25 employees. (depending on how busy we are). I am involved in 3 different non-profits which I work with on a monthly basis, and my wife and I are expecting our first child in May.......... I'm lacking spare time unfortunately :yike: but I'm working on a petition that I'm sending to God. When I get enough signatures I'm going to ask him to add a couple more hours to the day...

I'll sign it... :chuckle:
I know what you mean... I usually save my taxidermy projects for when the wife takes the boys to the grandparents in Tennessee. If you are going to give it a shot, I would start with non-waterfowl birds. They are much less labor intensive (or maybe I'm just doing it wrong :chuckle: ) and if you goof one up you won't slit your wrists..
-
yeah I don't think i'm going to learn taxidermy on a drake harliquin or wood duck, lol :bdid:
-
No, don't start with ducks :bdid:(especially nice ones). Start with a grouse or a pheasant.

Here is my current Trophy room. It is all going into a smaller room in the next month and that will become my North American room. This will make way for the African mounts! I have been waiting for them since Sept of 2007 so I am nearly rabid with anticipation! I'll post the photos when they are done. I have the work in progress photos of the African work, however the taxidermist requested I not post them on line as works in progress do not look good and he doesn't want that to represent the quality of his work.

I did get the Zebra and meerkat skulls. Here they are. Note the canine teeth on the zebra! The one with the handgun is there for a size compare. It is a 357 mag with a 6 inch barrel.

all taxidermy in our trophy room was done by myself
-
thats the cleanest shop I've seen

A collection to be proud of.

Bolsen, you have the exact set up I want. I would love to know any specs on the building if you built it lately.

That's a pole building. Very easy to build and they go up fast.

They go up fast as long as you work on them :chuckle: My 36x72 has been in the works pushing 3 years I think , umm maybee only 2 :bash:

Its exactly what I want. Guess I need to start researching cost....

I got my "Kit" through a company in Oregon. I cant recal the name at this second but it was 15,500.00 delivered, it has a 12 foot eve, 2 man doors, and 3 roll up doors (10x10) and a 2ft overhang. Roof insulation .It was Parker Building BTW. Now the concrete is another 3000 for just the mud and 1300 for labor unless I can find someone to do it cheaper.
-
If you are having a Pole building built - Now is a good time. lots of desperate contractors, and lumber is significantly cheaper than it has been for several years.
-
You may want to talk to a couple of contractors. They may be able to beat the materials cost over a kit.
-
Yep contractor the way to go right now
-
One of my friends is about to build a 36 x 48 with 16 ft eves and two 14 foot by 14 foot roll up doors. including carport RV Parking. looking at something in the mid - $20K range. Does not include electrical or insulation. That will come later.

Wow some really nice trophy rooms. Some of you could open up your own natural history museums. ;)
