Clallam County Bear from August
-
Went up to check our cameras after a long soak- didnt quite make it because I saw this guy first!
happy to have a bear for the freezer!
-
We had just stopped for a second to watch a hillside and I saw him right away. Eating blackberries standing broadside. I quickly got a shot off and he was rolling down the hill in a flash. I had busted his shoulder so I took another poke and got him through the heart. Pretty guy, weighed 120 at the butcher's ( no hide, guts or head)
-
Nice job Crowinghen
-
Good work!
-
Nice bear! Good job!
-
Nice bear crowinghen! How many bears is that for you now??
-
Second bear. Missed one a couple years ago :(
The first one ( in my avatar) was my first ever harvest of a game animal. He was a big boar, 10 years old per wdfw , 300 lbs or so, with head and hide. I shot that one with my .243. This one I used my 30.06 .
We love bear meat. We like to get at least one a year if we can .hopefully I saved a calf or fawn, or two!
-
That’s awesome! You saved more than a few calves and fawns.
And they are great eating. Enjoy it!
-
Nice bears everyone, keep droping them like cord wood. :hello:
-
cool grats all.
-
I got to poke a hole in this guy on sept 1st 30 minutes out of the gate. He was spooked by something and ran right to me. By the time I got a shot he was at full speed running right at me at a mere 20 feet. It was more like self defense lol. After the arrow hit him he turned back but only made it about ten yards before piling up in the buck brush he had come out of. Not the biggest but is my first and I couldn’t be happier to have him
-
Nice!
-
I filled my second bear tag tonight! We walked up a logging road, the rain had just ended, and we spotted this guy 200 yards up hill. He came around a stump and gave me a nice frontal shot and I took the opportunity to drop him. I can't believe what a beast my husband is for rolling this guy down that blackberry hill!

Nice work Crowinghen - if you don't mind sharing, what meat cutter so you use for the bears?

Finally got my first black bear yesterday. He was about 150lb. Did a solo hunt and went about four miles back up my usual mountain and he was 80 yards off the trail eating berries. Time for some bear roast.

Nice!!

Should be a great eater!

:) good nice to see more.

Finally got my first bear. I figured out the key to bear hunting... Go deer hunting!
Not much of a story. He just happened to be walking down the wrong trail. Gutted him, wiped the milk off his lips, and tossed him in the truck. Canned 8 pints last night, and wow is it delicious. I think I'll shoot a bigger one next time, it's so tasty! :chuckle:

The little ones taste better than the big ones.....keep shooting the little ones. 110 to 200 lbs are tasty. The big old nasty ones taste fine but they are tougher than tire rubber. Just my two cents with the bears we have eaten.
Congrats on a great bear.
-
Any bear taken, even if it’s young/small, is a good bear. One less predator, good job.

Couldn't agree more jrebel, the 2-4 year olds are the best eating. The wife shot a 10 year old a couple years ago and it was tough, good flavor, just had to cook it in the Instapot in order to eat it.
Congrats to you and your son on the bears, good memories there. Congrats to everyone else on your bears as well.

Got my first bear after a long couple of weeks. Missed 2 bears previously and then found out my nightforce scope wasn’t holding zero, one of them was a big boar too. I was hunting my usual hillside when a friend sent me a message in my sat phone saying he’s got a nice bear th next valley over where he was at. Packed my stuff up and made a death march up and out of where I was at and made it over to him in 25min. The bear wasn’t there but knew where he saw him last. About 7min later it pops out at the bottom of a clearing at 500yds. I get setup, get a 8-10mph wind reading. Dial my dope and pulled the trigger. Was able to get back on the scope and see it waddling off in not too much of a hurry. Buddy said I nailed it and the whole side of the bear rippled from the impact. Hiked across the valley and found it balled up in a ditch 30-40yds from where I hit it. Surprised it made it that far...the 300gr bullet made a softball size exit hole right in the armpit. Slinging the 16lb target rifle makes me want to build a lightweight .338 Lapua...don’t exactly want to take it along again but man does it do some damage! Nice sow fat as can be, upper 200lbs for sure. Looked like a barrel with stubs for legs.

2018 Eastern Washington bear. Skull measures right at 20 inches. Waiting on wdfw for age info. Doing a full body mount
-
He looks like he had been in a few fights. Broken teeth, scars all over his neck and his nose is ripped in half so it looks like he has a cleft lip
-
Wow he is a brute!
-
A year later I finnaly got around to this haha , northern Alberta 2018 bear taken with my reign 7 with radical archery 100 grain radical hpv broadhead ! My first out of state and out of country hunt ! Feel free to follow me on Instagram too @ Thefornster .
