We were out driving some forest roads in the Olympics this past weekend and came across a couple that appeared to be picking some type of berries (elevation 300-600 above sea level). They were collecting them in a milk jug like container so the sides were not clear. The contents appeared to be red. I wasn't aware of any berries that were ripe this time of year. Any ideas on what it could have been?

Started seeing/ eating ripe Salmon Berries a couple of weeks ago at about that same elevation here. Both the Red and the Orange. Guessing that is what they were picking.

I'm thinking they were picking salmon and thimble berries. Both are good eating :EAT:

Huckleberries are also starting to get ripe.
