Been looking into buying my first layout blind. Who all hunts out of them and what brands do you like? Anything specific to look for when buying one?

I don't see much difference in them, I bought one from the Bargain Cave with a huge discount and coupon on top. For the places I hunt, it is hit or miss whether I will have access to a good field that is holding birds and if it is dry enough to use one or a swamp. Two years ago I got a ton of use, last year, not so much.
They are pretty simple things at the end of the day, fabric to lay on and some type of fabric door that flips open. The only thing I would look at is how much cheap, thin plastic is used at joints and hinges. Less plastic and more simple design = better. Also, watch to see how high the profile is, some are practically as high as sitting in a chair.

I'm out every weekend, I bought a tangle free one, not sure of the name. Suggestions- buy the oversized ones, don't buy a little one. No matter what size you are, nice to have the extra room. buy one with a insulated/rubber floor, keep the warmth in the blind, and buy a brown one, it will always match the color of dirt, or almost anything your laying in, and last but not least, make sure it has straps to put brush in when blinding up.I could've saved 20/30 bucks buying elsewhere, but mine was only 179.99 here in Moses.

We hunt out of layout blinds most of the time and I have the Avery finisher. It's medium sized and folds up pretty small for walking in.

I currently use a Rogers Goosebuster. Many great features, and well made. I also have an Avery Finisher as my back-up / guest blind. The Finisher is lower profile if that is important to you.

It really depends on how you plan on using it. I need to transport mine in a boat for being able to fold up small was important to me. The FA xlander is one of the best I found to meet my needs. If you have a trailer or big storage there are one that don't fold up as well and have a lot more room. The xlander does have a good amount of space for it's size.

I have not heard many negative things about the tanglefree blinds. watch the website and they will go on sale periodically. I have an avery power hunter. Mine has a single door and it can be a pain, but it is extremely low profile so I can hide it anywhere which is a plus.

Try as many of them out as you can in the store first off. Lots of different variations and sizes. For taller people like my partner and I, it's a huge deal. Consider you'll be wearing lots of layers, how much stuff will you have in the blind with you, how well you can conceal in it to getting into a shooting position. If you use it enough, you'll most likely trial and error a couple before you get it nailed down. I'd sacrifice some room for a lower profile.

Green head gear ground forces are pretty solid for that. I have 4 of those and they’ve held up well. They pack well on your back and set up quick also. I’m a pretty big dude but can still suck into them when I need to. But if I’m driving to where I’m hunting and don’t have to pack a blind far they aren’t my first choice. The final approach pro guide xl would be my favorite. But every scenario is different and calls for different blinds. So I think the ground force is the most versatile because you can pack it easily
