Title: Remington 7400 30-06, "high or low"?
Post by: WapitiTalk1 on June 20, 2018, 09:34:30 AM: Getting ready to help a buddy select and install a scope on his REM 7400 SA 30-06. The iron front/rear sights are present and intact. Here's the question for you cats that have handled/hunted with the old REM SA's more than I... Is it recommended to put the old see through mounts on this rifle, or, just go with a 0 MOA rail and rings (probably the Weaver tactical rings.. I like those)? I can get the see thru mounts anywhere but would be grabbing the rail (if I go that route) through EGW Guns (I've had great luck with them).

Question: Your thoughts on installing a see through mounting system (so he still has the iron sights available) vs. a rail and rings?

More comfortable, quicker to target, less clunky, looked better and more secure. I think the old see through rails are from a time when optics were far less dependable than todays stuff.

This would usually depend on the scope being mounted

I used low ones but the scope is a 40mm reticle. baker5150 nailed it.
