I just drew a Cleman's sheep tag, i'm speechless, i just assumed it would be another disappointing draw. Last year my best friend and hunting partner drew a tag. I missed out on his adventure (He shot a great Ram), unfortunately I was fresh out of brain surgery wondering if I would ever get the opportunity to hunt the mountains again. It looks like I am going to get that 2nd chance, i've got some work to do since i'm not fully recovered but I am charged up and ready for the challenge.
-
Congrats have fun.👍
-
Fast recovery and best of luck for sure cant wait for some pics :IBCOOL:
-
Awesome! Congratulations!

You'll get plenty of help, if you ask, and the biologist out of Yakima is very helpful, but I had the same tag in 2014 and if you have any questions for me I'd be happy to help. Just send me a PM.
-
That’s awesoem CH. Great unit. You’ll have a blast👊💥👊
-
Congrats on a great tag! I too drew a Cleman tag....but I only get to hunt ewes. :chuckle: Like others have said you will have a blast and will get all the help you need.
-
Congrats Coonhound! Hope you have a great hunt!

Coonhound congrats! I drew the Clemans ewe tag! I’ll be over there scouting and obviously hunting, I’d be happy to help you if you need it.

Congrats!! How is the recovery from the surgery going? You always have Judy to help you out.
-
congrats, sounds like there are people willing to help you, I wish you the best of luck

Way to go fellow Lewis County hunter. My 22 points didnt help this year for that tag so I am really glad you got it. Good luck!

:yeah:
I've chatted with Jeff, the bio, a couple times and he's good people. Very dedicated and helpful. I won't have a ton of time this fall (getting a business off the ground this year) but I live next to Clemens, so PM me if you have questions or need local knowledge. If the stars align and my schedule is actually free, I'd be more than happy to carry stuff up and down the mountain, or assist with scouting.
and CONGRATS on the tag!!!!! Cheers to good health and a fun fall :).
-
Congratulations on an awesome experience! I talked with Jeff this morning and you’ll have a great time. Enjoy every part of the hunt as these tags are few and far between. Give me a call if you’d like as I’m more than happy to help in any way possible. Bryan 360 584-2752

That’s going to be a awesome hunt! Congrats on the draw
-
Congrats, you will be fine.

Fantastic! I can think of a better reason to focus on recovery. I wish you the best, you got this.

I drew the Clemens-C Ewe tag for this year. I had drawn the ram tag in 2012. Looking forward to some excellent sheep meat for the freezer. Happy to give you my guidance, if needed. I did a lot of scouting, saw as many as 50 rams on Labor day weekend in 2012. Very tough to decide which ram to take.

Coonhound congrats! I drew the Clemans ewe tag! I’ll be over there scouting and obviously hunting, I’d be happy to help you if you need it.
Congrats maybe I'll bump into you there. I'll let you shoot the first one as I'm holding out for a record book ewe. :chuckle:

3 of the ewe tags went to members, not bad at all.

I didnt know there were 2 different ones, but apparently I have the "C" tag in November.

Coongrats Coonhound!
Add me to the list of guys willing to help. I had the tag in 2014 and would be more than willing to talk or even help pack for you. The most important thing I'd say is don't shoot the first ram unless you're really sure he's the one or you're limited in time off You've got plenty of season and you'll see plenty of sheep every day.

Thanks everyone, I appretiate the encouragement and offers for help. My Son and my Hunting partner will come along so I should have plenty of help. I will probably make a few calls just to get my bearings but the scouting will be just as important to me as the actual hunt. I'll be getting up there several times over the next couple months, hopefully i'll get my legs and balance back under me during these trips. My biggest worry is effectively field judging the calibler of critter. I really want to bring home a solid mature ram, it doesn't need to be the biggest on the mountain but I don't want to have any regrets with a OIL chance.
-
I've spent a few days on the mountain and i'm having the time of my life. There are tons of rams up there, i've saw a few that look decent to me but i'll need several more trips to get a solid feel for what's truly a decent ram. I told my wife she would have to put life on hold this summer until this hunt is over...she's been a real trooper and says she supports me all the way...we'll see if she can sustain that sentiment through August.
-
Congrats
Which tag did you draw?
-
Cleman A, any ram, September 15th - October 10th
-
Good luck. Can't wait to see your ram .
-
Any feedback on this ram, here are a couple angles of him? I've now been over everyweekend since I drew my tag and i'm finding a few rams of this caliber but I don't think i've found anything much larger yet. Most days it's been so windy it's tough to use the phone scope so I don't have as many pictures as I would like. I'm blown away at the number of rams i'm seeing, this is going to be a great hunt. I want to be patient but I also don't want to pass on a solid ram for this unit so i'm going to look at as many rams as possible before my hunt in hopes of painting that a clear mental picture.
-
Were you able to tell how old he is? picture is too blurry to count the growth rings......Looks like a pretty good ram for Clemens but it would be nice to see a picture from the front also.
Good luck!!
-
Dream hunt for me. Tagging along
-
I’m not a sheep guy so definitely not an expert on the difference between a 165” ram and a 175” ram. I would be more of a “that’s big enough guy”. If you have seen three or four about that size I wouldn’t get hung up on shooting the biggest of the four, I would shoot the one that you like and hopefully is giving you the best shot opportunity.
-
I tried posting a pic of a ram that I saw last December, but the pic must be too large. I think it’s the same ram. I thought he was 14 x 32 which puts him in the upper 150’s. I like the way he flairs out.
We saw two rams that were a little better than him, but not much better.
Good luck!
-
Looks like a shooter to me, but then again I've never hunted sheep. I think it's all up to you and what you are looking for in the hunt and that ram appears to be a good representation of a mature sheep.
-
:yeah: that's an any day shooter for that unit. I've got 1 from there years ago and that's a good representation of that unit. Take him before you lose the opportunity.
-
I agree with the last post, that's a solid clemans ram and one that someone should be happy with in that unit. you might find something a little bigger, but you aren't going to find anything significantly larger than that.
-

@huntnphool
Looks like a shooter ram to me, but I'm not a sheep guy.

started to broom off the right side at little, but just the tip prob 3-4 inches, and you get to see the beginning of the flare. I hunted Lincoln cliffs and I set my goal for one not broomed and flared, even if a broomed ram was bigger and more mature, but that ram looks like a shooter to me. I would def take a look online at sheep mounts and you will gain an opinion on looks, (you will be looking at him forever on your wall) so make sure you shoot one YOU like to look at (tipped and flared but maybe not as much mass or an old broken broomed warrior, both have their perks), not what everyone else thinks, my opinion, is :hunter:
-
id like to see the head of the ram in front, his body looks bigger than the rest
-
That ram I a shooter in my book  Good luck on your hunt
-
I'll need to see the picture of you holding his head up while seated next to him to judge a score lol all I know is if it was my tag id see about hanging it off him.

After a really tough year and often not a lot to be excited about I was blessed with this rare opportunity. When you've had a life event like a brain tumor it really puts things into perspective, I now have all intentions of making sure I live life to the fullest and this hunt is no exception. I had been applying for this tag for over 20 years and didn't believe I would ever get lucky enough to draw one. Even better was that I was able to share it with 2 of my favorite people, my son and my best friend Jeff. Through this my wife has been so supportive, allowing me to drive over the mountains to scout almost every weekend for 12 weeks and she had to listen non stop chatter about what I was seeing and how exited I was. After all the anticipation opening day finally arrived and the 3 of us set out to bring in the final chapter of my long awaited hunt. We had an amazing day, the mountains were absolutely breathtaking and there were sheep in almost every canyon we explored. We eventually found a group of 11 mature rams and decided to make a stalk. We were able to get with in 216 yds, after sizing them up and picking out my prize I squeezed the trigger on my trusty 270. I was almost overwhelmed when it all came together, it seemed like a truly impossible dream. I could have never accomplished this without Josh and Jeff helping me out and putting up with my slow clumbsy pace. 11 months ago I was learning how to walk again and was truly wondering if I would ever be able to get back in the mountains, let alone go on a sheep hunt. Thanks Josh, Jeff and Ginger for helping me realize this dream.
-
Congrats  Great story glad it all came together! Nice looking ram
-
BTW is that the same ram you posted pics of earlier in the thread?

No, I haven't been able to find him for several weeks now, he was considerably bigger than this guy. My goal was to shoot a mature ram, it didn't have to be the biggest on the mountain just a good representation. With my recovery still underway I wanted to get it done with my son and best friend with me.
-
Great story. Great ram. Thanks for sharing. Congrats

Great story and awesome Ram. Congrats on a job well done.

You totally met your goal. Congrats on a great hunt with friends and family. It is always nice to see a story about the hunt and experience where maximum inches isn't the focus. I would be so happy with that ram and the experience you had. Thanks for sharing and for showing us all what it really is all about.
-
Well said Rainer10, and you have a beautiful sheep that when you look at it you'll relive the hunt with awesome memories.
-
Excellent thank you for sharing and congrats on your ram :IBCOOL:

That’s a Beauty of a ram 👍 A true trophy of a lifetime that most people will never get to experience with family and friends like you were able to do.

I don't know yet, I haven't met the biologist to get him pinned yet, i'm sure he'll give me the real age, our guess was 7.5. My hunting partner shot one last year and his had the same rings as mine and it was 8.5?

I would have guessed 8.5 based on the count and look on mine.

Obviously I have a lot to learn if I am ever going to be a sheep guy.
