Look at the size of this blacktail. The guy who owned the property gave me permission to put my cameras up and told me he had some big deer but I was not expecting this. Pictures taken at the end of June so this deer had plenty of growing left. Wasn't able to hunt him but can not imagine how big he got. Had 2 cameras only 75 yards apart and got nearly 30 pictures of him along with a forkened horn and a damaged 4x2, all of which were daylight.
-
Very nice buck!!! Good luck with hunting him this fall.
-
Post all 30 of those pics!!!
-
:yike:
-
Yep, we need more pics! Hope you get a poke at him this year! Kind of an odd configuration for a blackie, is he in SW WA? The reason I ask is he looks like a lot of buck that I have seen close to the Columbia with a little bit of whitetail in them, hence the eyeguards and points off of main beams.
-
-
It does indeed have the whitetail antler configuration and big ol' eyeguards. It would be great if you could post s'more pics so we could look him over. For sure a big'en.
-
That one big point is not an eye guard it is another beam. I will post another picture or two when I upload them. And yes it is all blacktail. I know that the antlers may resemble a whitetail but I am telling you that this is all blacktail. I am sworn to secrecy but I will say that this buck is within 30 miles of Mt St. Helens.
-
If you get a chance I would love to see some different views of him! Looks like a great buck

He does have that whitetail characteristic to him, but I watched a big 4-point buck a few years back in Capitol Forest with the exact same antler configuration on one side (minus the extra beam at the base). Can't wait to see some more pics of furbearer's buck.
-
That's a stud buck.
-
nice buck for sure, nothing wrong with that
-
Here are a couple of more pic of the big boy. One was taken with my other camera that I had out. I like this one because you can really see how tall he is and he is with the busted up 4x 2. The other one is a better angle to see that nontypical beam coming off the base of his horn. Hope you guys and gals like these. The date on the one were he is walking away is not right, i forgot to set it. They were taken the exact same dates.
-
nice lookin buck for sure, but I wouldnt say a monster.... looks like hes near the yale unit or castle rock area
-
Neat lookin buck for sure.
-
hey hoytstaffshooter, I know there are bigger bucks out there because I have one on my wall but what I am impressed with is that this picture was only taken in June. He had plenty more growing left to do and who knows how big he ended up getting. Sorry to say but you are not even close on were the pictures were taken. You have to head more northeast than that.
-
more northeast.. hmm lets say.... chehalis? and like I said hes nice but IMO wouldnt have been a monster even in sep..... I have a farm out here in a rural area that has 5 bucks over 150 on it.... I almost got a chance to hunt them this year.. almost!! but he has some really awesome characer.. I wouldnt pass on him, in those pics for sure
-
You have any pics of the 150+ bucks Hoyt?? DAMMMMMMMMMMM! That would be something to have access to 5 bucks of that quality...
E
-
I would love to see that too. :hunter:
-
I would love to see that too. :hunter:
Shouldnt be a problem seeing one of them on his wall this year, especially being able to shoot 9 out of 10 kill shots at 100 yards with his Hoyt.

Either way MHO is 5 blacktail over 150 in the same field is a pipe dream unless they are high fenced or NW Treck, although Charlie has seen his share of them in one general area so maybe I'm :liar:

Man your always bustin that thing out M_ray
-
For Chriminy skes...where are you guys getting those AWESOME smileys!!!
Years ago outta Fall City I saw 3 big bucks walking together not far off the road... ITs probably my "best" sighting of blackies.. i'll bet the big guy was 138 ish...cant call hi m140..the other two were 125ish.. it was a sight to behold. They were in velvet and were Lookin Good!
Very, VERY few people have seen a blacktail that will score 140... way less have seen a 150 (I've seen 1 bencher that goes that...)...and WAY, WAY less have seen 5 150s on one farm!
however.. maybe Hoyt Man is one of the few....??? :dunno:
-
I wish I could say I have seen a 150 class blacktail alive in Washington. I have or will mount a total of 2 150 class blacktails. I have seen a few in the 140 ish range, but thats it. Most are in the 130's. But then again I'm in the heart of spike and forked horn territory here :'(

Here's FIFF's 153, sorry its a pic of a pic.
-
Awesome buck, can you imagine seeing 5 of those in a field :yike:
-
No, not really.
-
I'm with you guys on Hoyt being :liar:....he got real quiet...must be out taking picts of those 5 monsters as we speak...let's see they should be starting to grow their bone back probably going to be 165's this year.... :chuckle:
-
Here's FIFF's 153, sorry its a pic of a pic.
i was waiting for you to show up with them...
i know you've got a couple more too.
-
By the way BC, that things the real deal. NICE
-
How thoughtful of that buck to grow a "handle" on his left side... :chuckle:
I don't think I realized that was a tine until about the 4th time I looked at it...
What a stud blackie... Thanks for posting it BC
-
He is not the biggest we have chased! I chased this buck for two years and could never get a shot on him. We caught him chasing a doe about a mile and a half from where we origanally chasing him. I took some live shots of him but they did not turn out. FIFF was chasing a huge 5x5 bigger than this one but was always one step to late or sat on the wrong trail!
-
Thanks for getting my Blacktail blood pumping again man :chuckle: Got my Multi season tag, I need to stick one of those little 140 bucks with my bow, you know the ones you dont want to shoot ;) I'll take a dink, no problems here :chuckle:
-
 :yike: wow, looks like a mule deer
-
Talk is cheap, when hoytstaffer either kills all five 150's or gets all five on a game tracker at the same time, I will believe it, but until then I will consider it another hunting story. Stories don't impress me, the real thing does. By the way, I went to the guys house with his son this weekend and killed a coyote. When his son and I got back to his dads place he showed us what he had found the week before. He found both matching sheds to the deer in the pictures. His boy told me that he is going to steal them from him and wants me to make a plaque for fathers day. No *censored* and I will post the plaque to prove it when I am done.
-
Oh heck...maybe he has...maybe he hasn't... alls I know is that buck BC posted is a stud!
The biggest I've ever seen, and it probably was a hybrid, was up on Dandy Pass, off Stampede, probably 1986... it was an easy 160 buck.. but again... he probably had some mixed genes... Right?? I have seen quite a few 135's up there..and maybe one more that would go 150..
NEVER during deer season...these were all seen while hunting bears in August...

That's what they call a "benchleg" blacktail I believe. Mostly looks like a blacktail (smaller ears, black "badge" tail), but has mulie characteristics (ie, large forked antlers, coloring, etc...).
-
ive seen one deer that woulda gone in the 150s i think, he liked to hang out with these exotic deer this guy has. kinda funny but he was huge, but again one of the bucks you see on pavement. never have seen a monster in the wild away from houses or farms
as far as 5 over 150..........
-
Got to love the drop tines ;)
-
I am not going to debate genetics at all... well..just for a second or two :chuckle: but in many, many years of spending a lot of time in the Stampede country I never saw a deer that "looked" like a muley... and furthermore...rarely did I see one before I'd get to Cle Elum...???
You guys??
-
Ernie, what does this guy look like?
-
I consider deer in the Cascades mule deer and the deer on the west of I-5 blacktail. Thats a hell of a buck right there Josh, love the mass.
-
"Ernie, what does this guy look like?"
He looks like a frickin PIG!! :yike:
Seriously...he looks muley to me.... what do you think??
E
-
Hey Jackelope, you could never convince me that is a true blacktail. too many mule deer characteristics. If it is borderline, then it is a mule deer.
-
I want to go one step further and say...there are a lot of clean..."normal" looking bucks that would score WAY better than that buck that I would pass up 9 out of 10 times to Kill that buck... That is the CHIT I like! :P
-
there's more pictures of him and he is all mule deer if you ask me. i never saw him in person, but his former place of residence certainly could throw up a bit of a flag. :dunno:
Fanatic on here killed that buck a few years ago.
-
SOrry for the A D D posts
Phool...I grew up in the Snoqualmie valley..and those deer are 100% blackies...just as much as a deer anywhere west of 5... at least in my opinion ;)
-

theres a whole lot of turf in between I-5 and the cascades though...are you saying the deer running around redmond you consider mule deer?
-
The arguement on where to draw the line between mule deer and true blacktail can be argued for years. To say everything east of I-5 is mulie sure puts blacktail into a small group. Every deer I have killed has been and the east side of I-5. Although all of then were within 5 miles of it, it was still east. So I think in this arguement, each deer should be considered by themselves, not just by general area unless you are talking extreme east and extreme west. to hell with what boone and crockett says, i would just consider them nice deer
-
to hell with what boone and crockett says, i would just consider them nice deer
here here.
-
No arguement from me guys, those lower land deer between I-5 and the Cascades are definatley blackies, I think most of you understood my point though. To me those deer up in those mountains are closer to mule deer than blacktail and to have those lowland/coast deer in the same category is not right. I'm with you furbearer, they are all nice deer regardless.
-
Those are nice bucks!
But I see bigger ones all the time :P :P :P :chuckle:

Maybe you should apply for a gig as a staff shooter for Browning.... :chuckle:

What do you guys think this dink would score? :chuckle: Sorry about the quality, I had to scan them. 100% pure BT buck.

140-150?? That's a hog for sure.
-
Hey MS that jeep in the lower left is pretty cool!
-
That buck was around about 15 years ago. It basically lived in my buddys mom's backyard. She was the one who originally took the pictures. Sure wish I archery hunted back then :bash:

Thanks! My cousin sent me that as a reminder I need to get mine finished. It took me a minute to figure out what it was. :chuckle:

I own one and picked it up right away, I might have to steal that from you.
-
150, where are the other 4 :chuckle:

You guys??
Not to throw a curve, but I did see what I beleive to be a mulie in Stampede this year. I've been hunting up there for a lot of years and I agree that most of those bucks look like blacktails to me, but I have seen some that looked like benchlegs and then the big one from this year (well '08) that I would call all mulie. Granted he was only about 2 miles from the crest trail, but he was in the stampede and was chasing 4 muley does.
-
That "dink" is everything that is cool about a big blacktail! What a pig!!
7mm... Right on!!
