Title: ideas for new bow
Post by: jwroberts on March 14, 2009, 10:22:13 PM: We bought my wife a new bowtech diamond a month ago. She has only shot it a few times now but she is struggling a little. This bow seems to have very little play once it breaks over, I think that is referred to as the valley. She has a problem with creeping and this bow grabs right away, much different than my mathews. We still have time to exchange it for something else and wanted to see if anyone had ideas. One of the big reasons we went with this was the wide range of poundage adjustability and the cost, about 300 for the package(rest, quiver, sights) ready to shoot. Thanks for the help

Right now we have her set up at just over 40 lbs, she is pretty athletic, and works out and it seems like the weight is ok. So far I am only having her shoot at the most 12 arrows per session. She was shooting my old bow that only has about 50% let off and seemed to do better with it, seems strange. The goal was to try to get set up for under 400. Thanks again

Post by: JBar on March 15, 2009, 05:47:54 AM: If I remember correctly those big draw adjust bows lose their valley as the draw length gets shorter, the let off remains the same but you have no room fro creep. Not sure if there's anything you can do to fix it.

I'm very new to this but I will say that when I was choosing a bow the one I shot with no letoff was much easier than the one I bought (same one as your wife) I have no real advice...mine is cranked down to 30lbs and I shoot almost every day ...except when I hurt myself..... It is getting easier the more I practice. She may just need to shoot more often :dunno:

We took it back today with hopes of going out and shooting a few more models and finding something a little more forgiving. Thanks again

From my experience, the higher the draw, the further back you pull to get it to break, but also,, the sooner it grabs if you creep forward.

Just a thought.

Post by: NWWABOWHNTR on March 16, 2009, 08:07:56 PM: Not sure what the issue is, my 10 year old is shooting the new 2009 Diamond Razor edge, currently with the 30# limbs set at 27#'sw and draw is set to 20". It isw adjustable from 19-29"DL. Doesn't seem to have any creep, could be just set a little too high LB's for your wife to start with. Might want to run by the local Bowtech shop and just make sure its set up right. I also have the 60# limbs for my daughter(they adjust down to 30#'s) for when she gets ready, one bow she should never outgrow.

Cuz the Black ice only goes to 30" draw
Brace Height 7 1/2"

I sold it to a gal that is brand new to archery today, and I had her hitting a 2 in target at 10 yds in no time. :IBCOOL:

Well...not every bow is right for every person. That's why there are so many successful bow companies. :chuckle:
