"Under the bill, designated officials would be able to remove some California and Stellar sea lions from specific areas where they are posing the most harm to endangered native fish runs."
I'm a WCO, where can I get 'designated' :chuckle: There ought to be some good contracts for some really big, stout cage traps pretty soon too.

 Lets hope it actually happens!

If I am not mistaken the bill needs to pass in the Senate and Trump needs to sign it.
It wouldn’t hurt to call our two commie senators and ask them to vote to approve the senate bill when it comes up.
Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray if you weren’t sure who I am referring to.
-
Despite what you'd think, Cantwell is pushing the bill to the Senate.
"Republican Sen. Jim Risch is sponsoring a bill that would make it easier for federal fishery managers to kill sea lions that could prey on salmon and steelhead. Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington has also signed on in support of the proposal."

Lets get started sooner than later. Seal got this one from me last month.

Does this bill need Senate approval as well?

That cage trap would have to be a monster. I am completing a large guillotine trap right now that feels like a beast to handle but it is nothing compared to what a sea lion would require :yike:
-
I favor the .223 trap.

Yes. Maria Cantwell introduced a identical bill in the senate. The bill has been referred to the Senate committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. It is unknown when it could get a vote.

:yeah:
I wonder if it would help if we found out who is on the committee and encouraged them to bring it to the floor for a vote?
-
This needs to go through ASAP
-
I wonder if they'd make it a special permit draw or something....I recall my ancestors killing them for sustenance so I need 1 to continue to exercise my rights. :chuckle:
-
Need to pass this and one that replaces sea lion with wolf.

Would you really eat one?
-
Hopefully it's good. 700 lbs of nasty sea lion would be bummer.
-
Yes.

I would and then have a sweet fur jacket made!
I also wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a token to the tribes as a way to discreetly take care of the issue. One I would be in favor of.
Remember that thousands of cornmeratns were managed on the Columbia by the feds... while I may prefer Sportmen handle it, a compromise may be necessary. A move in the right direction is much better that my Verizon of the ideal.

I would prefer that the marine mammal protection act is repealed and we treat harbor seals, sea lions, etc. no differently than any other game species with an appropriate hunting season. I will take this as a consolation prize though, we need any kind of management we can get.

Heck yes! I got the bowfishing bows setup with a float for big game fish. We would have to attach it to like a ancor ball for a float but man that would be a kick!!!! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

If it were to pass and that is a big if it will probably go to APHIS. Tribes might stand a slim chance if they wanted to push it. I think anyone else is very unlikely.
But makes me wonder about what to do with one. Eating, seems like poor table fare but maybe. I would give it a try. Maybe when Plat gets his he can hold a barbecue and I could crash the party for a taste.
Hide on a sea lion must be like 4 inches thick. Not sure what use it would have. Recaps? :chuckle:
Render it out for shoe grease. Probably be enough for everyone on here.
-
I would most definitely like to eat harbor seal or sea lion, that was a staple for many people in the history of our species. Not sure if I would like the taste, but only one way to find out.
If the fat is tasty (I have heard it is), a family could be set for quite a while for cooking, baking, etc.
A big, thick, warm pelt like that could be a lot of fun to play around with.
-
Special draw, make some money, shoot em.
-
Tribal members are killing them now.

not enough or fast enough
