Can anybody tell me when the Roosevelt elk rut is in Clark County, WA? I have no idea :dunno:
-
I’d say pretty close to the same time that the elk rut in Cowlitz county :chuckle:
Here’s a good article to read: https://www.elk101.com/2018/03/planning-your-2018-elk-hunt/
Also, unless you already know where the elk are in Clark County, I’d focus my efforts elsewhere. Good luck!

thanks for the information, I do know where the elk are.

When the cows get hot. This depends on hormones, so every group of elk is a little different and every year is a little different. If you know where the elk are at then spend some time with them, they will tell you. Then you can tell us, but it will likely be different next year.

if you know where they are and have access, why ask?

Because I was wondering if calling would work during the hunting season I am hunting in.

When are you hunting? I'd say a good bet is September 15. They will be carrying on 2-3 weeks before hand and 2-3 weeks after.

Oct. 6-12

Unless you hunting a large piece of private most of the elk you see in the summer in the Clark county portion of gmu 564 and 568 will probably not make a peep after archery season .

Myself and the guys i hunt with kill most of our bulls consistently starting around sept 12th to the 25th every year no matter the moon phase or state. This year to make sure i hit the first of the rut ill take the 6th off thru the 30th but thats because im hunting multiple states. Good luck there's some big bulls in clark and skamania county.

Thanks for the info, guess I'll just still hunt and spot and stalk.
-
Given that you are hunting during the muzzy season my experience is they are generally not talking. Depending on the GMU, if you seeing bulls they may not be in the same location once they lose their velvet.

Cows go into estrus at different times they don't all go into estrus all at once they go into estrus Within about a 60-day period of time. I think?

I can tell you this bull elk don't know when the rut is . If a cow came into extus in August vhecwould be all over it. If I could be in elk woods one week a year it would be the third week of September
-
that or first week of October I have seen some of the craziest elk rutting Ive ever witnessed in early October.
hilarious listen to guys say elk don't talk here or after this date... I ran into a guy on a quad one year telling me all about the elk and how they don't talk where we were.. this was after I just worked 3 bulls all screaming at me.... tells me it was hunters :chuckle: next day listened to 2 bulls bugle and I shot one

Most activity I see has always been last week of sept first week of October. I have also seen herds grouped up and bulls screaming in late October during deer season as well. Just have to be out there and see what they’re doing
-
I vote last two weeks of sept is a decent bet to get into some rut activity. That being said there is good hunting opening weekend if you get away from crowds. Bulls wont be nearly as aggressive. I killed my biggest bull Aug 26 with one sequence of two cow calls and a bugle with some chuckles. He came into 35 yards glunking just looking for love.

I would not leave my calls at home if hunting on the dates you've mentioned. Elk are vocal all year long but more so during the rut. As long as there are still cows coming into their estrus cycle (remember, cows will continue to come into estrus... 2, 3 times until they "take", oftentimes into October) their will be increased vocalization in the elk woods.
