Title: Treeing bear after shot
Post by: Big6bull on July 13, 2018, 07:16:05 PM
So just watched an episode of the edge where the guy said after a marginal shot on a bear to immediately chase it attempting to tree the bear. Thought it was interesting thought. Anyone tried this ?

No. I would shoot it again. Granted, if I had a buddy that was disposable he could chase it up a tree.

Well then, guess I won't be bear hunting with you  :chuckle:

On that thought path though I do believe a wounded bear probably would be more inclined to take my face off of my head than to go up a tree

Chase after wounded bear or shoot again?  No brainer lol dump lead into them.
I have enough problems with bears not being wounded wanting to whoop me let alone one hurting and ready to fight lol.

Ughhh???  No!!!  I can’t see anything good coming from this idea...  I have been around a lot of black bears, killed a few, and guided a fair number and I can say this is one of those “don’t try this at home” ideas.

I had one up a tree last year.
Wasn’t that fun by yourself. Got lucky.

We've had several climb trees after getting shot, they did it on their own, usually yearlings or young sows. We've also treed quite a few bear out of season for fun by barking them up a tree.  :chuckle:

A buddy shot a bear in the Wenaha that went way up in a dense, gnarly spruce before expiring.  He definitely would not recommend treeing one, he says getting up that tree was like belly crawling through blackberries and then rolling in fresh tar.  One of his worst hunting experiences.
