Title: Trad Archery mentor wanted

I got tired of the compound so picked up a recurve about 4 days ago... my goal is to shoot it for a year or two unti I can responsibly hunt with it... listened to a lot of material about the stick bow and a big piece of advice is to find a mentor... so here I am seeking anyone who wants to donate their time assisting someone who wants to learn.. I’m not looking for lessons but someone who can share insight.. I’m located in SW Washington by Chehalis..

First one is to start close. It feels weird shooting at 10 yards, but you'll save alot of arrows.
Shoot lots. Youll need to probably shoot 100 arrows for every one a compound shooter needs to shoot.

i was never much on figuring out perfect form from a textbook. I took basic archery practice (skills) and molded it into shooting my own instinct way..

Get out and do some stump shooting if you can. Walking around the brush shooting has been good practice for me. I'm going for my 1st bow kill this yr not for lack of trying :bash: :bash: Squidward

Post by: shallowforks on July 26, 2018, 12:10:48 PM: like stated above. shoot, shoot, shoot. form is important for consistency but everyone has to do what works for them so once you find a way that fits you get consistent. personally I like shooting the asbell way. high wrist, canted bow. shoot every day. with the right set up and lots of practice you don't need to wait two years. you could be ready by late archery for sure. Hell even early if you dedicate yourself to it.

(full disclosure, I switched to compound 3 years ago but that doesn't take away from the fact that I shot trad for over 15 years before that. all my "biggest deer" are still from my recurve days.)

I happen to live in/near Chehalis, and have some knowledge about "Trad" archery.
Pretty busy schedule right now, but we could probably figure out some time to get together and loose a few.
