I see that AAA Charters has started fishing off Mukilteo, just south of the launch.  Don't know how well he's doing but you could give him a call.

I was out there yesterday in the smoke. Launched at Shilshole and fished mostly Meadow pt area.  We took home two resident coho and one nice from from the ocean.  Lots of shakers and had to let go two decent sized Kings.

Pains me to target coho and not kings right now, but looks like that is in the cards for tomorrow. Hopefully find an ocean fish or two.  Will be in 10.

Scratched up a couple yesterday in MA-9.  Not red hot fishing by any means but they are trickling in.  Any yes there are still plenty of Kings around.

Fished Jeff head on Tuesday evening, lost one coho, and kicked back 2 Kings, one was about 6# the other in the mid teens, both hatchery. About enough to make a man cry

Awesome conditions this morning for fishing. My kid and I played with kings for a bit, then focused on the coho. Missed a few good bites and lost a couple, but wound up with three coho, two were resident size and one ocean fish. Rain should bring in more fish, next weekend should be good.

We started around the Trees and trolled north with the outgoing tide to Edmonds.  Did hit a double right in front of the oil docks (converted 1), but didn't find any real concentration of fish, just one here, one there.  Lots of boats at the oil docks, I'll probably steer clear of there just so I don't have to deal with all the boats!

If I'm reading the regs right, 8-2 is any coho, 9 is release wild and 10 is any coho?  Glad I have a good GPS or I'd be in fish prison.

Yeah, that’s correct.  Also you can’t fish in area 9 if you have wild Coho on board even if they were caught in 8-2 or 10.  That’s going to make fishing the Shipwreck area around the 8-2, 9 line interesting.

I fished the tide changes last night and this morning in MA10.  Not red hot by any means, but good enough to get my fish.  Today's fish were both nice, the bigger of the two went 8.5 lbs, and the smaller was a little over 6.  For what it's worth, I tried several landmark spots that have been good the last couple years and never touched a fish.  Then went out to the deep water and hit fish both days.

It seems like with the coho you are often just as well off heading out into 500 ft of water and just picking a spot.

I am going to have to try that next time fished the bait box twice in the last couple weeks in about 100 feet or less and spent more time pulling weeds off our lines than anything.

I think that's right.  Sometimes they get concentrated in shallower with the bait, but I think mostly it's just habit coming out of king season and it feels weird to not fish some sort of landmark.  I saw one of the charters out there today in the middle, headed south.  A little this direction, a little that, he clearly had no path he was following, but generally trolled south for a few miles until I couldn't see him anymore.

Now you just need five of those blinky flashers to go with them.   :chuckle:

The only thing I could do with the cookies & cream this week was hook large dogfish in the dorsal fin.

worth my time to head out after work or just suck it up and fish weekend first light?

If you cant fish first light, fish the tide changes.  Some spots are better on either incoming or outgoing tides.  Just takes time to figure those out.

90% of our bites come before 8 am, maybe even before 7:30.  Fish are caught later, it just really slows down.

Evening bites can be good, particularly if you can stay til dark.  I got two one evening last week, and both came in the last 30 minutes before dark. Nothing in the two hours before that.

Hit 11 last Saturday morning with my brother. Ended up pulling two  around 9am within 10min of each other. Guess we found the school. Couldn't locate them again. Back at the dock, one boat of 3 said all of them limited. I've been in the fish the past two weeks, just can't say it's been hot. Would love to limit out one day soon.

Indeed, things are getting better here every day.  Creel survey says Everett ramp yesterday (9/4) had 56 coho for 28 anglers.  Literally can't get better than that!  Shilshole report from 9/2 was something like 1.2 fish per angler.

We will be in the derby too.  Debating whether to fish MA10 where we've been catching lots of fish, or going to 8-2 and looking for a bigger one.  Just haven't fished 8-2 in several years.  Also kinda depends on the weather for my little boat.  We did get a couple better fish Monday morning.

I didn't make it out today - maybe next week.

not what  I expected considering what they are catching out closer to the straits , we bailed on the zoo that was the shipwreck and fished the west side of the bar and scratched out our limits all be it small. son in law and I are headed farther out tomorrow looking for better fish.

We got our four fish in 10, but had to work. We spent just enough time in the dirty water at shipwreck for my kid to lose a pig, it went airborne and came down and snapped the 30 lb leader. Heartbreaking on derby day!  We went back to 10 after that. But he got one good enough for top 50 and took home a new fishing hat and some gear. Btw, the last two fish we hit at 11:30a were 30 and 35 feet down, think the heavy cloud cover kept the fish up higher today.

I think your right about the cloud cover. we picked up our last couple up at tide change at the same depth as you. we didn't make it down to the awards, do you know what the mystery weight fish was?

Keep in mind those are gutted and gilled weights, about 3 pounds short of live weight.  We did well, in the prizes, but the bite was certainly the hardest of all week.  The weather rolled in and they were not nearly as hungry as any day this week.

Overall, a good derby, better than the last one (catch rates and sizes), but not quite as good as it could have been.

Grrr, was going to go for it, but small craft advisory in a 15 foot whaler is more sketch than I like!  Might still go and just try to tuck out of the wind.

Btw, at least 100 boats yesterday and today in front of shilshole. Good bite yesterday, not as good today. I put one really nice fish in the box today when it was still pretty dark out, but no bites the next two hours after that.

Looking to get out tomorrow....Any insight on how the Everett launch and area will be the day before the derby? Trying to avoid some crowds if possible.

Thanks.

It will be a zoo, many will launch tonight and tie up to the dock. I have seen lines at 4 am on derby weekends, that being said everybody please keep an eye on the weather, the forecast for Sat is not looking good and derby fever makes people not think straight. please don't push it if you or your craft is not capable of the conditions.
Sunday  is looking better

good luck everyone and be safe out there!

Fred

Anyone know if the nets are still out in the bay or Snohomish river? Fishing has really slowed down the last few days. Thanks for the info!

The net boat seemed to have moved south, Edwards point to Shilshole.   I didn’t see any in area 8-2 yesterday.  I don’t know what’s going on in the river.

Took a last minute trip out of Shilshole today.  Found them a little north.  Got 3 out of the same school instantly, then had a tough time finding our list fish.  Took another hour and a half before we could find our 4th to round out our limits.  Mostly chunky looking cookie cutter 5-6 pounders (bigger than last year for sure) with one big guy that is probably around 10 pounds.  Solid morning of fishing.

We just pulled the plug for tomorrow, four less rods for you guys to compete with.  Stay safe if you go out, forecast is degrading a bit and doesn't look to let up all day.

How's the fishing?

We were out @ 6:30 this morning..............windy and bumpy.   We fished from the Mukilteo ferry to the shipwreck and back.  Caught three.......one 9.5, one 6.75 and one about 4.  There were quite a few hardy souls out there.....I'm sure there will be a few more tomorrow, since the weather is supposedly going to be better.  Good luck to all !!!!

Yeah, it was brutal out there. At one point my kid hooked a fish and couldn’t reel it in because the wind was blowing us away from the fish so fast. I went to turn the boat into the wind and basically chase the fish and really had to gun it to get turned around. Fun times!  We quit at 9 with three, biggest about 7 lbs.

Flurry bite, missed one, bonked a 6.5.  Couldn’t be nicer out now.  Just need an 18 and we’ll call it a day.

We ended up with three off of Shilshole today.  One right at first light then the last two at the tide change.  Two ocean fish and one resident.  Certainly not the great bite we have been seeing the last two weeks.

I did see some seiners heading into Ballard early in the morning and I am pretty sure they might have had something to do with the slow fishing.  The water was the flattest I have fished in this year.

Headed to WY tomorrow for antelope, so that’s probably a wrap for me on coho. It was quite a season in the Sound, particularly kings. Just can’t remember king fishing like that. Freezer is full, taking a couple fresh and about 10 frozen to WY to send back to Arizona with my hunting partners.

Btw, kudos to the guys that run the Everett Derby and the sponsors, they put together a great event with a unbelievable amount of good prizes.

I'm putting the boat away until at least black mouth season.  It was good good to get our Coho season back, I hope it continues in future years.
