And they offered me a Wasatch LE archery elk tag !! I have to call them back tomorrow and see if my partner can get one also ( we applied as a group). Not much time for getting my stuff together the tag opens in two weeks!! Aug 18-sep 14 . Looks like I will be begging for another week off in September I’m thinking sep 1st show up and hunt until the bell rings!

sweet! second guy I know who has gotten the call for a Wasatch archery elk tag

That's awesome

I guess there was a fire that burned up about 40,000 acres of the Wasatch recently, and a few guys turned in tags. It’s a huge unit though. Got my time off approved today so now I just have to find some elk, no time to scout with this short of notice so I will be scouting as I hunt  sounds like the unit is on the decline from poor management ( sounds familiar) but I’m sure I can turn up a few decent bulls to go after! The first mature 6 point I have a chance at will most likely get an arrow! Most likely going in solo

I drew a deer tag in Utah in 2009, with no time to pre-scout the unit, I contacted the wildlife biologist and he was eager to tell me all he knew. You might want to try that route to put you on track with such short notice. Good luck on your hunt!

Wow there is a ton of guys with experience on the Wasatch over there! Most guys seem willing to help a guy out too. I tried to make an account but can’t register an account for some reason. I got a few mytopo maps in the mail a few days ago and spoke to the biologist that takes care of the southern portion of the Unit. He wasn’t a super helpful guy but I think I caught him at the end of his workday. I read the biologist notes on the Hunt Planner page. I’ve been scouring google earth and onX maps. Hopefully I can make a decent run at it! Anybody have any pointers or areas I should check into? Is a 4wheeler a good thing to have there (mine is not street legal). I still need to call the biologist that takes care of the Northern half, and also would like to talk to the local game warden. Can’t decide if I should camp up high or down low where I am more centrally located

I has the same tag last year. Truly a disappointing hunt. The biologist all said the same thing about where to go. Never seen so many people. Could have stuck a couple of small bulls but didnt go that far for a little guy. Hope you have better luck.

I’ll send you a pm. We hunted it last year.

We saw one 6X7 bull that would have gone 340 to 360. Had we been in his area on the opener we would have had a good chance at him but we went where the bios told us to go and lost several days there and I mean worthless areas. We finally struck out on our own and found some good hunting. I'm a bit jaded here too as prior to this hunt I got to archery hunt back to back years in the Dutton unit in Utah. Two years my buddy and I took 3 nice bulls scoring 340 plus there. Dont know where you are located but would be happy to give you my maps of the area and show you the good spots we found.
