Hey guys,
Anyone have any luck calling elk in during the Early Muzzy season? If so, what sounds do you primarily use? Thanks!

Cow call....always the best for me regardless of season or location.

Thanks for the reply man!

Bugles! Aggressive bugles! They work exceptionally well in early muzzy season when the bulls are fighting for the last few cows that are coming into estrous. It’s a magical time to be in the woods calling elk! Our success rate for calling in bulls that time of year is much higher then September archery season

Yes, as long as there are a few cows coming into their estrus cycle, the increased vocalization due to the rut will continue. Most cows come into their estrus cycle around the third week of SEP, but, those that don't "take" will have another cycle, even a third sometimes, until they take. Should you call during the early part of October? Absolutely. What calls should you use? It depends as all situations are different. You have to figure out what's occurring during a situation and go from there.........

Bitchin !! That’s what I was hoping to hear about the calling. I understand it’s juuuuust post rut, I was hoping to not have to just rely on spot and stalk as my only option on this one. I drew a MS elk tag this year and have never hunted the muzzy season before. Can’t wait to get out there! Thanks all!

My avatar pic is from otc western wa muzzy season the other year when I had multiseason. He was screaming and came into bugles and I killed him like an hour into opening morning, the year before that we killed one who came in hot opening morning with bugles as well, and the year before that.... it’s good :chuckle:
