My 2 year old lab Liberty has been sprayed 2x within the span of a week and a half. I have borrowed 2 spray proof skunk traps from a friend of mine. I got them set up and baited with a broken raw egg. Anyone have any other ideas on how to trap them?

Here I get them with tuna, chicken wings also

Canned cat food fish flavored

live trap ,then with a long pole put a cover over the trap and release in a different area. I've don't several this way. maybe 10 and only one sprayed under the tarp while moving. be gentle so you don't scare them. cat food works

Relocating problem skunks is a n "NO-NO. Euthanize on your property.

Seriously......my wife had a pet skunk for a short time. It ran away, at least she thinks it did. What I learned might help. Skunks like to get into things just like a coon. If possible encase your trap. Maybe a cardboard box would entice it to enter. I also learned that they will eat just about anything.

I got sprayed directly in the face by a skunk about 2 feet away. Don't let that happen. It'll change your life. Good luck.

Completely illegal, might consider removing this, hate to see you get in a jam. ;)

I've caught 200+ skunks on vanilla wafers. Why Vanilla Wafers? Most of the time if you use a fish type bait, which skunks love, you'll have a hard time keeping cats out of your traps long enough to catch your skunk. Most cats do not bother the vanilla wafers, but the skunks love them. Oh and you can have a snack if you get hungry while setting your traps. :)

Had a pet skunk once when I was in college back in 1964. On our way back to our apartment from swimming and saw that the mother and litter mates had been run over. Probably had just opened their eyes the previous week. Had it de scented and it made a wonderful pet. Being in college my mom ended up with it. It was a female that grew to almost 30 lbs. (mom's scrambled eggs and bacon, among other things ). Eventually went to a lady who taught children with disabilities. Later ended up spending the rest of it's natural life at the Point Defiance zoo.
Cleanliness of a cat and personality of terrier pup as close as I can describe it. Used to set on my left shoulder when I drove around in my 57' black Chevy BelAir. Got lots of looks when I pulled into a drive in.....and they say youth is wasted on the young…..lol. :chuckle:

Very cool story!

Put the trap on a board when setting it. I used a live trap on one. it dug enough grass and roots up into the trap that I couldn't pick it up. it was stuck to the ground. not fun with a skunk in the trap. Good Luck!

I keep catching possums not the skunk :/

Make sure the trap door is facing southwest.

I just use whatever I catch them eating as bait. Dry dog or cat food works just fine.
My spray-proof trap got me sprayed a little bit last week, so still be aware of that. You can wash off with dawn dish soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide.
Had an old game dpt. trapper tell me the best way to kill them is a 22 or pellet gun lung shot. They're supposed to curl up and die slow and wont spray or release. My brain/spinal cord shots usually cause them to tense up and release.
As far as cats, I just leave them in the trap and turn the hose on em for a few minutes. Great aversion therapy, I've never seen the same cat twice.
