Title: Broadheads?
Post by: fishngamereaper on August 25, 2018, 07:23:50 PM
So for those of you wiser than I in the bow hunting world any advice.

Heres where Im at. 340 spine Easton FMJ's cut to 28 3/4. Draw weight 70lbs.

SO far Ive flung all 100grn fixed blade...... Muzzy MX 3 and 4's, G5 Stryker and Montec. Im also looking at Thunderheads and I know, should order some RAD stuff. Ive just been grabbing what I can find local and giving it a try. So far the Montec's  are money, they fly true. They just don't seem as beefy as the Muzzy's  but they do hit the target with some power.

The Muzzy's fly low and the Stryker chiped a blade after 6 shots.

So any advice. Stick with the Montec's. Keep flinging? Im just having fun with the trial and error but two weeks till game time and its time to get focused....

I shot muzzy for years and had good success. Switched to montec g5 and hated them. Odered from Rad and never looked back. Super bad to the bone. Only ruined one broadhead and that's because it was buried in bone and used my leatherman to pull it out. They are killer sharp.

I've shot thunderhead 125s for a couple decades.
They never let me down.
This year I bought a set from rad.
Hopefully, they will get a real test in a week.

Trying out different heads isn't going to hurt. It's not like making a radical change to your setup that will alter your shot.
You've got the montecs, so if you don't find anything you like better that performs better you can always use those.
Best of luck this year.

I'm shooting RAD heads this year. Last year I shot Rage and they were fine, but I LOVE how sharp the RAD heads are! My daughter is also shooting RAD this year. It's her first time hunting and I have no doubt when she puts the arrow where it needs to go next saturday, the blood trail will be great and a dead deer to soon follow!

I also like Kudupoint broadheads, if you're into 2 blade heads.

i am a huge fan of Slick Tricks 4 blade standard broadheads.  Ive shot a bunch of different heads over the years, and these have been my favorites.  I prefer replaceable blades 3 or 4 blade is a personal preference.

RAD heads sure are great and have an unbelievable following.
I haven’t shot them yet, but they will be next on my list.

I’ve shot Wac Em 3 blade, 100 grain for 13 years. They have been amazing.

I would shoot what ever has shot best for you at this point that being said I shot cow elk 2 years ago with a 100 grain muzzy 3 blade and shot a bull last year with a 100 grain qad exodus both performed as expected I dont think you can go wrong with many of the new fixed blades just make sure they are flying true and sighted in it's close to the season not time to be switching around broadheads.

Take a look at the magnus snuffer ss. Similar design as the Montec but a much better head imo.

RAD heads arrived today.....Rival 100 and Madman 4 blade. They both shoot great, to good since I have to replace some blazers now :chuckle:

Now I cant decide which one is going to be the lead off hitter......

Put this on another thread then seen this one might be better.
Both daughters are shooting low poundage bows at their first try at archery 40-45#
I want to support local so curious rad madman 3or4 blade would wrk better than g5 Stryker that have more of a cut on contact head.
Thanks for any info

my wife shoots the 3 blade madman with the LPS (low profile solid) blades at 45lb.  Very quiet head with those blades and they do a number on the deer.

I have been shooting the G5s because there accurate with my bow/arrow combo, but very tempted to try out the bone broadheads next.

Me either, I’ve seen some big holes created by them.  Are yours dull out of the package like mine are? @LandofRath

I think there sharp enough to get the job done, but wouldn't take long to get them sharper if I felt the need.
Plenty of Big game has been taken with the G5 broadheads.

I think I am going to order the Bones this weekend and see how they fly.

Anyone prefer expanding broadheads over fixed?

Yeah, always seem dull. But doesn't seem to matter.

Rage broadheads...particularly the trypan. Our hunting group has killed 10+ deer and four elk including a big bull with 60lb bows and rage broadheads with mostly pass throughs.

Another vote for the Shuttle T's.  They may seem dull but run your finger down the edge :yike: :dunno:
