Plane tickets booked. A week over the Thanksgiving holiday. Me and a bud, deer tags, free to roam as we choose and a basic plan in place that if, or when, it goes to heck we wing it from there. Got a few pieces of gear to add and am loading up the Kimber Montana 25-06 plenty of projectiles :chuckle: or boolits or pills or whatever they are. Can not wait!

 Sounds like an awesome trip
-
Sweet! Good luck mister.
-
Should be fun. I don't know about Sitka, in particular, but it can be kind of like a shooting gallery, in places. Make sure to pick the one you want, have a blast, and take pictures. It is beautiful.
-
Enjoy buddy, I'm green with envy!
-
Sounds like a lot of memories in the making. Have fun and have great luck!

Sounds like a blast.
We were going to make s trip up that way this year, but work got in the way, as usual.
-
Sitka will never be the same! :yike: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
That's freakin' sweet, let's see a writeup when you get back!!
-
Love that place! Been going for 22 years every summer. Hope to do a surf and turf trip next year in October or November.
-
Sweet!
-
Just left there. Have fun

I think of this trip daily. Got rounds loaded and trigger time done. Been watching the camo thread closely. I've saved some cash so need to invest in good jacket and pants. Rain is a for sure up there. I'm open to suggestions. I'm 6 foot 1 and about 240.

One word... Hefty.

Me or the gear!!! :yike: :chuckle:

Rubber boots. Extra tuffs, or I like the LaCrosse Alpha Burly.

Exta Tuff is on the list. I'm told go 1/2 size big to make room for good socks.
-
Yes, and get the good felt insoles. Makes a huge difference in warmth, dryness, and overall comfort.
-
Good luck. Ill be on PoW Island November 7-13. Cant wait. Love those sitka blacktails
-
Should be an awesome trip.

How are the bears up there? Can you outrun your partner? :chuckle:
-
After I shoot him in the leg.....maybe.
-
Good luck!

Have fun and good luck! Waiting for pictures...
-
Well, pretty much ready other than the packing. Leave next weekend!
-
Good luck and take plenty of pics
-
How many tags can a non resident get for blacktail in that area?
-
Good question. I bought one. My host can shoot 4 bambi.

Bears fear the h20hunter, his prowess is well know, proof is in his avatar.🙈

:nono:
Just found this thread... I'd advise that your strategy doesn't fall into the "good etiquette" category...
-
It is going to be a blast.
Lots of hunting, fishing, and mid-level shenanigans.

How does one get an invite 😉

3boys, that picture looks like IslandView. I go up there once or twice a year. Great place.

Sure is. Love that place. This year I even invited a crusty commercial fisherman over for dinner. :brew:
-
Awesome place. What’s your general mode of transport up there going to be? (I.e. boat, plane, or road system?)
I’ve always wanted to set up shop at one of the Forrest service cabins with a skiff for a week and get after it.

Crusty is awfully kind of you :chuckle:

What does a trip up there cost? I'm sure you can go full guided for a big chunk of change, but what if you just go self guided with accomodations?
-

I’ve always wanted to set up shop at one of the Forrest service cabins with a skiff for a week and get after it.
We're going to base off of my 47' mobile cabin and beach hunt with the skiff. While we're on shore making meat, I'll have my subsistence halibut set and/or 10 pot prawn string soaking. Or our black cod set, or... And after we get back to town, we'll be cutting, processing and flash freezing the bounty for at least 24 straight hours.
Poor H20. He thinks he's coming up for a vacation... I'll guarantee he's going to need a vacation after I'm done with him :chuckle:
-
Yup. Time to man up and put in the work. Just got back from a quick trip to the range. No adjustments needed, gun is spot on. I'll be shooting a Kimber Montana with break, 25 06, 115 Bergers loaded to just about max charge. Got nice glass, my extra tuff boots and my fancy pants kuiu chugach rain gear. Worst case is I'll be looking good!
-
Worst case is I'll be looking good!
Or, best case you’ll be looking good.😉
Have fun and be safe!

That sounds like a lot of work but for us guys that don't have to do it everyday it sounds like a blast too! The best vacations require a vacation to recover anyway. I'm jealous of you guys have fun!

Make sure and check that gun at the range in Sitka when you get there.
Pro tip: bring your gun with you when you go to set your targets. You never know when an 8' brown bear will appear out of the brush. :yike:
-
Yes sir.
-
You should truly challenge yourself and hunt with the .460 :chuckle:
Oh wait, you want to have some venison to eat
-
Well, met with captain and can't think of anything we didn't cover. We went over the menu options, found out neither like brussel sprouts but we have olenty of dining options. Got our top picks for movie night down and who gets which lazy boy. Now just gotta get there and go from there.
-
Sounds rough. Obligatory drink at the P Bar? Just don't let Chris talk you into ringing the bell.
-
Right on! Have hunted Sitka several times always a great time. Enjoy!
-
Make sure you pay 10 bucks and go see the fortress of the bear.
-
54 minutes of work to go.

Getting 3 tons of ice right now. If H20 can't get enough venison, ling, yelloweye and halibut to make use of it, he's gonna be shoveling on his last day with me to earn his ride back to the airport.
In the fishing biz, that's not abuse. It's motivation. :chuckle:

Couldn’t you just let it melt, then pump it out? :dunno:

Exactly! Psh.

In a 33 degree hold, it would take a long time to melt that out. Probably February-ish.
As soon as the fun and games are over, I need to get back to work with a scrubbed and sterilized hold. Just part of the deal. It really doesn't take that long to shovel it out, as long as you have the technique down.
-
Would you guys just start killing stuff and putting pictures up already?
-
Gotta het there first. Fly up tomorrow am.
-
Good luck to you!

33 degrees isn’t freezing.🤣

So far so good! Plane got grounded in Seattle resulting in a long enough delay that I had zero chance of making my connection. No problem says the gate agent.....we will seat you first class on the 10:58 pm flight. Uh no, no thank you. Hop online and book a one way outta Juneau to Sitka for a tidy little $150, I'll take my bag and gun case please and make it happen. So I'm all checked in with Harris and only have 4 more hours to kill before wheels up. If anyone else happens to be in the social hub of Juneau......the Fred Meyer.....I'm here!

The adventure begins.

Today was the day of days for the trip. Spectacular day on the water. Dead flat water, no wind, no rain. Shot a spike this morning on a perfect spot of shoreline. My first ever buck so extra cool. I'll post more when I get home. Right now I'm going to enjoy a night at dock as we expect a nasty one to blow in. Modern plumbing, prawns and pasta for dinner then rack time. Tomorrow we process and package and prepare to head home.
-
Very cool and congrats
-
Congrats on the first buck! Can't wait to hear more details!
-
Sounds like a great trip. You've got excellent company, that's for sure!
-
Sounds like good times!
-
Awesome.

Doom, sounds like you missed the weather by a couple days. I flew back from Sitka on the 16th after a week doing 4 days of day hunts. We had 10 man days (2-3 guys out 4 days) hunting n pulled in 8 bucks plus la few we passed on. They were pretty on the call and in full rut for the most part. Last day out was the first day ever hunting up there where we should have considered the sun, it was so bright and low we were walking around shading our eyes the whole morning. A lot of fun on a trip like that and I bet the crab, halibut, shrimp, and black cod fishing made for a great trip!
-
I'll share some more pics but I'm beat and laying low and decompressing tonight. Here is my lil spike. Fatty little deer and is tasty tasty as we had a bit of meat cooked up yesterday.
-
Well done gents! Looking forward to the rest of the report.
