I feel it so much I'm going to look for bear for the first time tomorrow. And I started getting my gear out. My wife asked if it was because of the cold mornings...

Yep, the blue berries are burned out, the Himalayan black berries are prime, the squirrels are in the vine maple collecting seeds, the broad heads are hitting with the field tips and I'm in long sleeves again. Everything has a season, and favorite one is here!!🤪

Well said! My thoughts exactly! I love September.

3 days, 5 hours and 45 minutes until deer season.

Back in the day when grouse season opened sept 1 “ it might be the same now” but that first breath of mountain air before the sun came up as we were loading up the shotguns, you could smell the steel of the shotgun mixed with old burnt gun powder mixed with that clean mountain morning air and it was just cold enough to put on a flannel !! Yeah you can’t beat this time of year
-
I can smell it in the morning air, a bit of dew on the cars as well! its almost here!!
-
I love it. Im disappointed about the fires burning and all the smoke where I like to go, but i sensed the change instantly. Im sure the animals did too
-
Whew, I was starting to worry! I couldn’t figure out why I kept peeing on myself!

Odd you bring this up. As I was sitting around the long table in a morning briefing by our senior staff officer (longingly looking out the window at the early changing leaves, wind checking the cool air coming in through the open windows), I suddenly jumped up, threw my head back, ....let out a two note bugle with a few hard hitting grunts, ran to the back of the room and started pawing the ground and raking the coat rack till it fell over. When a few of the other males in the room approached me, perhaps thinking I'm crazy, I continued pawing the ground, prepared for battle, and was getting ready to whizz on myself when I realized where I was and that although "feeling it", I still have two weeks till I head into the elk woods. It's getting close folks.......................
-
Jackmaster hit the nail on the head for me too... Flannel shirt, clear mountain air, cold steel and gun powder my memories of early September for sure.

Gladys, go check into a hotel for 30 days, quickly! Rasbo, just so you know, putting mud in the hot tub doesn't make it a wallow. It just makes it stop working.
-
I feel it. I'm two days away from a three-week vacation in the woods - the longest break I've had in 35 years. I can't sleep more than a few hours thinking about the elk woods. Of course, the propane isn't working in the trailer so I may be roughing it and having to boil water outside. These are the sacrifices we make for hardcore "front"-country hunting. Good luck everyone. May your arrows fly true, your hands be bloodied, and your freezers be filled.

It's getting bad folks, my neighbor showed me a mule deer he got on his farm, come on man it's not an elk but horn porn non the less. This morning I could feel it in the air. Hope you guys get some elk down....
