I test drove a Toyota 4Runner today and off the light it would occasionally loose power. The owner said I was giving to much gas and it was the traction control? Also it has a locking center differential? I really don't understand that? As always any help is much appreciated!

Take it to a Toyota store for a check up, from your description it is hard to solve. does not sound right to me.
I own a 4runner 2018

I own a 2015 toyota 4runner sr5 and it never stalls on take off. It has a ton of power and will flat get after it if you need to. The traction control only effects if you are on a hill and it starts to roll backwards or you are on ice / snow. When the traction controll kicks in it will "click" multiple times as if you were breaking hard with ABS.
Great rigs, but sounds like this one might have problem.
What year? How many miles? Stock or built up? Take it to a toyota dealer and have it checked out.

Were you on gravel or slick roads? Traction control does exactly what you described, but only if the wheels are indeed slipping.

What year is it?

Our Highlander has traction control and if you take a corner to sharp(even at slow speeds) the traction control warning comes on a you lose power significantly. Never had it happen on takeoff though
