Looking for any last minute information on this tag. My 14 year old has the tag and our plans have been changed due to the maple fire. We have a back up plan but it is a fairly small area. If anyone has a good spot I would appreciate some info. Thank you in advance.

I can tell you that the goats are no where to be found on Ellinor at the moment. I know a 13 year old girl that would love some input on another option. She's worked her tail off scouting and shooting all summer but can't turn up a goat now and the Maple fire has her back up locations closed to access.
-
Goats all move to mt Pershing from what I have been told. And now there is no access.

Ya, we heard the same thing also. It appears to be true. It's crazy to me that they make a mass exodus off of ellinor and head to pershing 3 days before the season starts.

I have some advice for you Benhuntin. don't shoot one downhill...Sound familiar?
-
Those things are tiny. Easy pack out for sure. Plan to put it in the truck whole for sure.

Ben and joevon, have any of you tried the trail up mt washington? It starts off the little spur road you pass on the way to the ellinor trailhead.

No, we haven't. I'll look into that. Thanks!

We haven’t but I heard it’s a more technical climb.

It is, but do-able.
Wish I could help, haven't been up there this year and haven't heard anything... I will start asking around though. Had a buddy go up to Ellinor a couple/3 weeks ago an saw the goats. In the past, when I haven't seen the goats on Ellinor or Washington, I have seen them in the Brothers coming in through the Jupiter Trail but that's a serious maybe....
-
You can get up Washington with some effort. In the past the goat numbers have been low on Ellinor and Washington this time of year. If you want a really long walk you can head up to flapjack lakes then up and over the Gladys divide and hunt the wilderness side of the sawtooths. It’s rough going and requires a cross country traverse then up and over. The best goats I’ve seen in the unit have been on Mt Lincoln. A box of wheaties is required to get to them and back out again.

Has she had any luck? Any new goat sightings?

Ben, have they opened any more roads for access to the areas near Pershing?

That opens up some opportunities.

I know for certain that 2/3 the early tags didnt get filled and I'm 99% sure that the 3rd didnt get filled either. Not for lack of effort, the bulk of the goats that were on Ellinor left the week before the season opened. Our back up plan to hunt Pershing fell through because of the Maple fire. Hope the late tags get some.
-
One of the late tags was filled. I haven't heard from Ben on whether or not his kid was able to punch his tag.
-
Please tell me this isn’t a once in a life time hunt.

I logged pretty close to the fire

I had a tag for the first season. I ran into the other two tags and they hadn’t had any luck on Ellinor. I hurt my foot on the 3rd day so had to give up. I see they opened the season for us until the end of November. Are the goats back on Ellinor or farther back? Are the roads open where the fire was now? I hope to get back up there.

Called them this morning. You would sure think they would notify the permit holders.
