Anybody use a type of elk decoy? Curious what folks think of them, good or bad experiences.
I used a Montana cow one this year, and not sure if was helpful or not. I called a respectable 6x in from 400+ yards away in the open. He came in quickly to about 80 yards then stopped, he was looking hard at the decoy and bugling at it, but turned and left. Wind was good, and don't believe he saw us.
I'm thinking that because the cow(decoy) did not go towards him, or even move for that matter, that was enough for him to figure out something was wrong. Guessing that if I did not have the decoy up, he would have possibly kept walking/searching for where the cow talk was coming from. :dunno:
What do y'all think?
