Title: Chehalis river fishing
Post by: bullkiller on September 23, 2018, 03:50:58 PM
Anyone else planning on fishing the chehalis come October 1st?  I noticed wdfw is doing all the sportsmen’s a favor and letting the nets be in the first 2 days that it’s open.

WDFW doesn't set tribal fishing dates any more than the tribes set sport fishing dates.

North Of Falcon meetings in Spring determine seasons based on various biological data as well as harvest reports. It is a federal thing. Has been for decades.

With the Willipa and Columbia closures it ought to be a regular fuster cluck on that system. WDFW is systematically destroying all of the small tributary rivers one closure at a time. At least all the enforcement guys will know where to be.

The enforcement guys should have been there a week and a half ago.  :twocents:

It looks like the Regs say we can keep 1 silver weather its hatchery or native.
Is that right?

Isn't that always the case?
I've heard a lot of talk about "retention" on that system already.

I'll be fishing it but not a lot of water or strong tides for two weeks...

6:45-11:30 put in at friends landing, fish down river below the nets till 8:30, nada...
I then ran up to the mouth of the Wynoochee fished downriver without one single bite all morning.
Yep needs lots of rain and stronger tides.

Yep, and it’s sad that you never hear about them getting busted.

I find this years rules ( different above bridge and below) confusing. I fish up or down depending on tides, fish movement etc. If I catch an unclipped fish in the morning below the bridge, the regs say I'm done. Can I then fish above the bridge and try for a clipped fish?

Call WDFG and let us know the outcome. I'd also like to know.

I asked this question to a warden last year, different river but similar scenario..  Once you have caught a salmon limit on a river system that day, you are done.

What bridge are you talking about. You can keep a native silver above the chehalis river bridge in Aberdeen and also below it in marine area 2-2. But only a total of 1 per day

Try around the mouth of the Satsop.  They are in the river, just waiting for a little rain

Anyone been doing any good?   I fished the last 4 days in the bay with only two fish on and none landed.  Pretty slow for the boats

There seem to be very few fish this year. Yes we need rain, but this late in the year there should still be fish in the tidal water.

The kings pushed in early and are staged throughout the lower system. We were catching 3 to 6 coho per trip above Montesano but 90 percent were unclipped. They are there just the typical tidal bite.
